What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The secret to taking a great photograph, or a series of great photographs is simple; learning how to see an compose a great image, hard work, technical expertise and a whole lot of practice. Everyone has a camera in their phone these days but that is not the same as understanding, and loving photography. Like any craft it takes years to develop the skills to make it look easy.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
I always like to know the basics first; what are the images going to be used for? who is the intended audience?, but then I like to go deeper. Especially if we are shooting for a brand or a business, I like to find out what message you want the images to convey. Do you want them to capture sophistication? a casual lifestyle vibe? or maybe a sense of dependability and professionalism. The more we can find out, the better the images will be.
What do you love most about your job?
When you photograph people for a living, you are always making new friends. It's inevitable. There's also a moment when things really start to click that is really special...the lighting is just right, the energy is there and the images start to take on a life of their own. When you catch that, when you really nail it, those images are preserved forever and that's really a great day's work.

I think there are a lot of great photographers out there, for sure. But you are going to be hard-pressed to find someone with more passion and energy for creating really memorable images. It's not just a job for me, it's a passion and a collaboration. I always give everyone of my clients, large or small, the same level of attention before, during and after a project is completed.
