I have been to Abuela Chona nearly a dozen times. I usually order 4 Criolla or abuela chona empanadas. Out of a dozen times they always take about 10-12 mins (even when busy in my experience) so I always know what to expect. They are always flaky and tasty. I am NEVER disappointed in the food. This food is amazingly delicious!!! You can TRULY taste all of the love that is put into these authentic Argentinian recipes! ! They have a big variety of empanadas to choose from. Each of which bursts with savory flavors and has you wanting more! Everything from the delicious dough to the flavorful fillings is made from scratch daily. They have other things on menu like the choripan (Argentian chorizo), chipa and papas fritas!! The desserts are to die for!!! The alfajores and the pastelitos are a must!! The are located at BG's Food Cartel, a food court located in the heart of Beaverton, next to the City Hall. You can order food and enjoy a cold beer from the bar inside the food court. Great place for empanadas! Love going to the food carts with my friends and decided to try this place for the first time. They have a great selection of empanadas and they are all really yummy ! I had the chicken empanadas and it can be a snack or a whole meal! It had great flavors and was made fresh when I got there. Their alfajor is also a great dessert option. Seriously delicious empanadas. You may have to wait a few minutes, but that's pretty standard for food carts, especially when the item is baked to order. If you want a crispy, flaky crust - you must be willing to wait a few minutes. Our food was delicious. We had the abuela chona and the pollo empanadas, as well as the desert cookie. Abuela Chona is a great food cart to try Argentinian food, and I believe the empanadas were my first two ever. I ordered the combo, which has two empanadas (there are about seven different varieties), an alfajor cookie, and papas. I believe I ordered the Pollo and the Abuela Chona. Both were great! The flakiness of the shells was awesome, and the filling was piping hot (be careful!). The papas had a very interesting texture and seasoning (air frying, perhaps?), but I enjoyed them as a diversion from tradtional french fries. The alfajor was a nice little bonus, a tiny dessert without having to order something huge.Service was slower than promised, but the owner was training a new employee. No biggie. I would also like to maybe suggest a carne asada empanada. One of my Columbian students was bummed when I told her it wasn't one of the options.A great place to try in the food cart to see if you like it. I am a teacher and Abuela chona brought lunch at my school one day for my Spanish students. They were so helpful and accommodating. When you visit the food carts in Beaverton just turn left at the entrance and stop at Abuela Chona Bakery because their empanadas are AMAZING! ! I would really recommend ordering the plate so that you can try out two different kinds PLUS that ridiculously devine cookie! Oh and their pappas are seasoned so perfect.
