My 7.5 year old son has been attending 5 Dragons for a little over a year. I initially enrolled him to help build his core strength and learn to increase self-control and his ability to focus. I wasn't sure how long he'd attend but we gave it a shot. Sensei Rick made the classes so much fun he wanted to keep going back. Fast forward a year later and my son still loves going to class; it's still fun even though class increasingly becomes more challenging. He's also meeting these goals we've set for him. After a year in Karate he is like a different kid.My son has recently joined 5D's XMA (extreme martial arts) class in addition to his regular classes where gymnastics and martial arts combine (think Mighty Morphin Power Rangers). The classes are run by a 10 time world XMA champion. The teaching is still fun but it is a little more serious, and focused on precise technique for competition purposes. They are focused on building confidence and inner strength to compliment the physical work to bring the best out of each kid. 5D teaches authentic Karate with qualified teachers. Sensei Rick is a third degree black belt. Karate training is very tough the closer you get to black belt level. However, he never makes it too tough for the little kids. I've observed Sensei Rick mentoring each child to the best of their ability, he truly meets them where they are at. Think of him as a coach. He develops a relationship with each child and gets to know their strengths and weaknesses. He is gentle and tough, compassionate and firm. I've seen him interact with kids of all ages and differing levels of ability. He communicates with parents regularly and is easy to contact. He's a dad. His kids attend the school. It's a family business. I feel safe and confident sending my son to his school.My son and I really like the community and camaraderie Sensei Rick is building within his school. My son attends Karate Fun Camps during vacation weeks and summer break- picture Nerf wars, water blasting relays, Lego building and a fun karate lesson each day. He is also participating in a robotics engineering camp this summer, taught by a national robotics champion, where he and his fellow 5D classmates are building, programming, and competing against each other with robots they make. He has also enjoyed an epic birthday party at the school with all of his friends and ate cake cut by a sword. I like that Sensei's mission is to develop students physically and intellectually. You get what you want out of it- do you want a fun exercise for your little one? You've got it. Do you want your child surrounded by kids of differing ages supporting and encouraging each other and building each other up? You get that. Does your little one love Karate and want to train to be a black belt or train for competition? You get that too!If you've made it this far you may also like to know that the brand-new space Sensei Rick moved the school into is gigantic, clean, air conditioned, and has a family friendly playroom for your littles to occupy themselves while their older sibling is in class.Why did I write such a long review? My son is not a "sporty" kid.He has ADHD and a list of other sensory issues.When he showed in interest in karate,I was sceptical that this would even be able to hold his attention for the 45 minute class. 2 years later,and he is still at 5 Dragons.Sensei Rick is great at identifying each child's abilities and strengths.He works with them to be their best.It has given my son a feeling of not only confidence ,but of acceptance.The kids here and all the families are very supportive. 5 Dragons is perhaps the cleanest, most spacious dojo I've ever been in, and Sensei Rick is the most honest and accommodating instructor I've ever met. My son is 3 years old and he absolutely loves the "Little Dragons" class, where the focus isn't on punching and kicking per se, but on discipline, listening, and following directions (which is exactly what all kids that age need to practice). The camaraderie among the students is remarkable, and I was so impressed by the instructors, assistants, facility and very reasonable pricing that I decided to enroll in the adult class - loving it thus far! I used to take a child I babysat for YEARS to Sensei Ricks classes and I was amazed by the positive difference I saw in the child after, so I finally had a child of my own and decided to take her to 5 dragons as well, she’s 3 and has developmental delays, communication disorders and sensory processing issues . . and she caught on really quick during his classes with the ways he teaches and the activities they do.. by her 3rd class in she was doing things I never thought I would see!!!!! Bounce on an air track, follow a multi obstacle course, climb heights and more. She was able to overcome more in her 3rd class there than she was in special therapies. Sensei Rick always changes the class routine so none of the kids there look bored, it’s a constant learning activity that my daughter could gain confidence in both her strengths and self esteem and learn better behavior skills while having fun! I took the kickboxing class twice a week, for a few months and Sensei worked hard with each of us to make sure we were doing what worked best for us and made sure we were feeling good, but still pushed us. Highly reccomend the class!

I cannot say enough good things about Sensei Rick, Sensei Marc and 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy Instructors! You will learn REAL age appropriate Karate & Life-Skills that will help your child as they grow. The instructors and students are wonderful. I have observed changes in my daughter and other students over a 3 year time span and it is amazing to have personally observed the transition they have made to where they started to where they are now :) The older students that have been in the program are some of the most Accomplished, Mature and Respectful adolescents/teenagers I have ever met. Among other things, Kyokushin Karate has helped my daughter with discipline & focus in school. She wanted to make better grades in school because Sensei Mark, Sensei Rick and Sensei So always encouraged her to do her best and would acknowledge good grades and positive behavior in class. Children WANT TO be acknowledged at something they worked hard for or did.Personally, I started out taking the Burn It Fitness Kickboxing with Sensei Marc and LOVED the workout classes! Eventually I transitioned to Kyokushin Karate and saw a huge difference in myself after only 1 year. I got in great shape, enjoyed working out for the first time, started approaching challenging projects head on because you don't give up at 5 Dragons Karate, AND started my own business. The Burn It Fitness Kickboxing studio at 5Dragons Salisbury, MA is, in a word, AWESOME. Not only are the classes fun and as challenging as you are ready for, the place truly feels like a community from the day you walk in. My primary attraction was the schedule of classes Monday through Friday, which works beautifully for my schedule. Talk about a sense of accomplishment! The second thing I have noticed is how attentive the staff is. Sensei Rick remembers if I have asked questions about something specific, like about a form or stretching. This is a wonderful school. Sensei Rick is an amazing instructor and he has created a gifted team of assistants. Many of their students and instructors hold titles in National Competition including World Champion, National Champion, New England Grand Champion, and State Champion. My son has been enrolled for eight years, starting with the Kids Karate program and continuing into the youth Marrial Arts program. My husband and I have both taken adult martial arts and Fitness Kickboxing. The instructors are talented, caring people, and the facilities are clean and bright. The academy offers many classes and workshops to the community, and often non-members are encouraged to attend. The summer camps are very well organized and offer long days and day camps during school breaks. Enrolling at 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy Salisbury finally stopped our revolving door of gym memberships. This studio is so much more than any gym could be - I encourage you to give it a try. My family discovered 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy Salisbury when we attended a Karate Birthday Party - we ran, did push-ups, broke boards and were completely won over by Sensei Rick and his staff. Shortly afterwards we signed up our 4 year old and he has been in the program for almost three years, joined a few months ago by his older brother. 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy supports my family's values. At school no explicit lessons are given on confidence, respect, focus.... My sons are now confident, respectful, good listeners and they are also great at breaking boards lol. They love attending 5 Dragons Kyokushin Karate class and practice at home often. I have never been to another karate school, but from what I hear 5 Dragons Martial Arts Academy is different - the Life Skill Achievement Awards, Championship Level Instructors, and the teacher/student ratio (there are always at least 3 teachers per class), also make 5Dragons a special place. I wrote 2 reviews already dont know where they went I have my 7yr old grandaughter in 5 Dragon's for a trial period. This Studio is definitely two thumbs up. The Instructor is very focused on his kids for the time he gets them to the very end of class. His son is also there helping very immersive young man he is. This Studio is a very comfortable and exceptionally clean atmosphere with out a dought. I highly recommend you or your child if you are looking around great prices great people. I couldnt be happier. If she is accepted i will be singing her up for 18 months and i may join myself. Love it every week. It gets better n better every time she goes. Best decision I made this month was signing up for kickboxing classes at 5 dragons. I was having difficulty finding fitness activities that I could get in shape with AND have fun. We love the 5 Dragons family! This class teaches more than just martial arts. Students learn important life lessons such as leadership, respect, humility, peer mentoring, public speaking, sportsmanship, etc. My son is enrolled in the basic martial arts as well as the Extreme Martial Arts program which teaches a whole new level of techniques and "fancy stuff". Along with the competitions, the kids enjoy the huge trampoline track, belt promotions, beach picnics, holiday fun, Easter Egg hunt, summer camp and events that give back to the community.
