What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
First I can tell you what is NOT the secret: It's not about megapixels, equipment, editing tricks, or budget. The real secret? Capturing emotional impact. A pro photographer will shoot thousands of images every month. Every week, even. What separates their good photos from their best work is capturing an emotional impact from the moment. Whether it's a landscape, a street scene, a bridal portrait, a special event -- most every situation is capable of delivering a personal connection between viewer and image. Life is a series of moments. So the key for the photographer is to recognize and anticipate these moments when they occur, and be in a position to capture them.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Business clients: we will talk about output -- where and how will the image be displayed, is this for online work, print ads, or larger impact? Ad work is more detailed upfront planning when it comes to composition, dimensions, and subject intent as well as what action you want the viewer to take when your image is seen.
Personal clients: Weddings can be highly structured and meticulously planned, or they they can be casual, spontaneous and intimate. Either way, they are always joyful and celebratory. So we work on a shooting program that complements what the Bride has in mind, while maintaining respect for all elements of the event, and delivering on emotional impact. Questions will focus on learning upfront about the Bride's plans, the location & context, and any special details needed in addition to the routine shot lists.

What inspired you to start your own business?
After a successful corporate marketing career, I thought I could help entrepreneurs and small businesses develop their own dreams. Photography is an incredibly effective way to express a brand purpose and connect with customers.
After shooting commercially for a few years, clients started to ask me for personal photography. Through referrals, and my own network of locations and idea generation, I have grown this part of my business through referrals and delivering dozens of engagements, weddings, and family portrait sessions.

The most reliable and satisfying way to choose a photographer is to review their work - first on their website, and then through samples delivered to show an understanding, a connection, between the project and the photographer's experience or vision.. And then after communications - online, email, and phone. Rapport, connection and trust are key.
Weddings
I love to shoot weddings large and small, as well as Elopements throughout the Hill Country. We have so many great destination venues to choose from, and more coming every month.
Property
I shoot for top real estate agents, and collaborate with designers and builders to showcase their best work for awards and recognition as well as their commercial portfolios
Ads
I shoot for many magazines for print ads. My experience in marketing, advertising and PR makes it easy for us to discuss your advertising goals and develop creative imagery to help your brand.
Murals
Large format prints look great at wineries, tasting rooms, and on billboards. I have a gallery of work at Bryans on 290 Restaurant, and large canvas murals at Hawk's Shadow Winery,, William Chris Vineyards, Kuhlman Cellars, and Grape Creek Vineyards. Billboards from my imagery have been created for Rancho Ponte, Compass Rose, Grape Creek and William Chris

I partner with several talented web designers, and can work with yours, to give your site a creative overhaul with beautiful imagery -- product, customer, facility, portrait -- we can collaborate on a project and I will take care of the implementation with your webmaster to scale all your photos and make sure they look their best.

Sales collateral, flyers, brochures, rack cards -- all will benefit from your own custom photography. Keep your business local and your imagery tied to your market!
