Infinite Life Journey
At my practice, I offer lots of different types of counselling services – from individual sessions to group therapy. It all depends on what each client needs and what they’ll benefit from. Because a lot of my clients lead busy lives, I also offer online and telephone counselling if that suits their schedule better. Although I always suggest coming in for a face-to-face session now and then, as these are often very helpful.
To be a certified counsellor, you need to have a Level 4 qualification in counselling. This can be as a diploma, or at a degree or postgraduate level. I chose to go down the university route by undertaking a BSc Hons in Psychology & Counselling. This meant that I got a degree and was accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I am now a registered counsellor with over 10 years of experience and have completed a number of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) modules.
Most of my clients have certain goals in mind when it comes to their therapy. Often they want to resolve issues which are causing difficulties in their lives. This may be problems in their personal relationships that they want help working through. It could be with their partner, family, friends, or work colleagues. Or they may want to develop coping mechanisms to help deal with their own mental health. But often these can interlink. For example, if a client is wanting help with their personal relationships, this often has a positive knock-on effect on their own mental health.

After several false starts with therapists, I can only say that I wish I had found Matt sooner! Over five years, I have seen multiple therapists to address issues relating to anxiety, depression and workplace stress. With unsatisfying results, I was highly sceptical about seeing another therapist; more fundamentally, I was utterly pessimistic about the possibility of being happy and free again. My scepticism proved unfounded. Matt helped me articulate the origins of deeply embedded patterns of self-defeating thinking and negative beliefs, which enabled him to work with me to develop practical strategies for loosening their grip. He is compassionate and patient while constructively challenging when he needs to be. This appropriate challenge of my negative perceptions, combined with empathy and kindness from Matt, is immensely helpful. The process resulted in me being much better at work, building up the confidence to apply for a new job (which would have been unimaginable before I started therapy with Matt) and my relationship with my partner!

Initially, I had many therapists from Bark reaching out to me, but I decided to go with Yishan. We first had a vibe check call, and during that conversation, she made me feel completely at ease. She listened without judgment, understood my worries, and never pushed for a sale. It was clear from the start that she prioritised my well-being over anything else, and that’s when I knew she truly had my best interests at heart. Since then, I’ve had such a transformative experience working with her. Yishan is incredibly knowledgeable and intuitive—able to assess what I truly need in the moment. Initially, we planned to do MEMI, but she recognised that I wasn’t quite ready and instead introduced alternative techniques that were more suitable for me at the time. One of the most effective tools she taught me was the brain switch technique, which helped me visualise and shift out of negative states. I applied it during a particularly important session and was able to carry myself with clarity and confidence. Yishan is also deeply patient and empathetic. She takes the time to really listen, and even when sessions run over, she never rushes the process. She ensures every concern is addressed thoroughly, with kindness and care. I always leave our sessions feeling lighter, more motivated, and in a much more positive state of mind. I truly feel seen and supported in her presence, and I’m so grateful for the growth I’ve experienced under her guidance. I highly recommend Yishan to anyone who wants to work on bettering themselves and improving their relationships with others—especially the one you have with yourself.

Yi Shan is someone who is very dedicated and focused in what she does. She is willing to go the distance to make sure you heal in a very effective manner. Sessions with her felt really comfortable as well. For someone like me who is naturally very avoidant, it felt nice to be able to confide in her as I trusted her. I am sure you will experience the same if you take the leap of faith to engage her as your therapist. She is very honest as well, telling me that she doesn't think I need to go for any more sessions unless I see the need to. That is not something you get to experience from therapists nowadays I believe.

How much does Counselling cost?
Your expert counsellor will be able to advise you on the full range of services available and will be able to advise on what is most suitable. Use Bark to get free quotes and schedule an appointment today.
What should I expect from my Counselling session?
At your appointment, you will be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained counsellor who will listen and support you without judging or criticising.
The therapist can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes and find your own solutions to problems. However, they will not usually give advice or tell you what to do. The counsellor might sum up what they understand you have been saying so that they can help you to form a plan of action.
Counselling can take place in a number of ways. These include:
Face to face session
Group session
Phone session
Email session
Online through live chat services or video conferencing software
You may be offered a single session of counselling, a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months or a longer course that lasts for several months or years.
It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your counsellor.
You can be confident that any of the Bark local counsellors listed will give you a reliable and efficient service to help you feel better.
What should I look for when booking a Counselling session?
You could look for counsellors that are accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA) which means that they have met the PSA’s required professional standards to practise.
Before you choose a counsellor, you could read testimonials and read details of the issues they can help with on their website.
You could also look at their profile page on Bark and check out reviews from past customers too.
What issues can a Counsellor help with?
Counselling can help with many issues. These include the following:
Mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety or eating disorders.
Physical health conditions such as infertility.
Difficult life events such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress.
Dealing with difficult emotions such as low self-esteem or anger.
Sexual identity issues.
Divorce.
Redundancy and work issues.
Phobias and fears.
Can I get a Counselling Service online?
Absolutely! Many counsellors provide their services remotely via an online video call or the telephone. Not only is it more convenient, but it's also the preferable option for many people who would feel more comfortable holding the session from the comfort of their own home.
