Wilfy has just come home from a week's residential training and his behaviour has noticeably improved. A very anxious dog, he is so much calmer than before and his reactivity has significantly lessened. Obviously we have a lot of work to do going forward but everyone at YCA, with special mention to Ian, have laid a great foundation for Wilfy and we have to hope we don't mess it up now! More...

Yorkshire Canine Academy Our experience with the Yorkshire Canine Academy could not have been better. We started our journey with our puppy border terrier. It was clear from the start that he was going to be extremely challenging as he was showing very aggressive, dominant behaviour from 10 weeks old. We had many moments of feeling helpless as to how to manage his behaviour. However, Jacob encouraged us throughout that with following the advice and structure and with a tonne of perseverance we could turn things around. And...we did! From having a dog who we couldn’t imagine lying down and staying, not biting us and not being completely destructive, we now have a dog who is pretty much there. He’s affectionate, calm, stays where we put him, is good as gold when it comes to waiting for food and has almost, almost got to 100% recall! We couldn’t have done it without Jacob. They are really passionate about creating a great relationship between dog and owner. I love the way that we go into more depth with the knowledge and understanding of how a dogs brain works and how behaviours are created and changed. As well as giving fantastic methods to work on with your dog in all aspects of training, the team are so friendly and honest about what you and, more importantly, your dogs needs are and tailor the training accordingly. I would highly recommend Jacob to anyone! He explained everything in a simple way or linked it to something you could also relate too. Which really helped me understand my dogs behaviour and my body language, which is so important. My Labrador was quite impatient and forward going everywhere he went and didn’t understand how to stop. He can now lay down next to me in different situations and walk politely on his lead in new surroundings. He has completely shaped Riley into a respectable and switched on dog. I had previously come to Jacob with my American bulldog to get some 1-1 behavioural training. He had a few issues regarding; walking on the lead, how he reacted when he saw other dogs and just general disobedience. It was the best thing I’ve ever done for me and my dog! I have so much more knowledge and control over my dog (important because he is BIG) and he’s also much happier. Since we’ve been able to go and meet up with other dogs, I can happily walk him and not the other way around. Since finishing the training we’ve learnt lots of new tricks too! We brought our puppy, Nelly to Jacob at Yorkshire Canine Academy at 14 weeks old. As a border collie she is a very energetic and all our training and tips have been specific to our dog/ breed, not just generic information. Jacob has a wealth of knowledge and has given great advice at each of our sessions to deal with any problem that has arisen with Nelly which is really shaping her behaviour and turning her into a very happy and well behaved dog. Outside of the 1-2-1 sessions Jacob is always available at the end of the phone even for the most ridiculous of questions! I can’t recommend Yorkshire Canine Academy enough as they have made the first few months of puppy ownership much easier and made us feel confident that we are doing the best for Nelly!
