This is my second three day visit to Wickwoods and was very enjoyable in every respect! |The hotel is well run and the rooms are comfortable and the staff are great. |I was there for the tennis, and coaches Mark And Damian are brilliant both at organising group training and also individual instruction. Definitely improved my tennis level! |Wickwoods is a tennis club as well as a hotel so it was really nice to meet some of the club members on court and after at the bar. |The spa and massage treatments are a lovely way to relax after a day’s tennis! My wife and I took advantage of a spa day offer at Wickwoods Country Club for our anniversary, and were delighted with the hotel, spa facilities, and restaurant. The offer included hotel, spa, a treatment, and lunch, dinner, breakfast in the Glass House Restaurant.||||Wickwoods is set in delightful wooded grounds which are themselves a pleasure to visit. The spa facilities include swimming pool, sauna, steam room, and hydro pool, plus gym and tennis court. A (massage) treatment was included in the price of the package as was lunch, and a £25 contribution (per head) to the cost of dinner. A particular delight was use of the spa facilities in the early morning, before breakfast.||||A two course lunch and glass of wine was part of the package (an extra third course could be added if required). We enjoyed the ham pieces in fritter, and the generous helping of salmon for starters, and chicken served with kale for main. The chicken was very good, but the kale (which is not my favourite vegetable), was a bit chewy. I also had a glass of house red, a Montepulciano d’Abruzzo which was perfectly adequate. ||||For dinner, the special was rump of lamb which was excellent, correctly cooked and presented (pink and tender). Dessert was a lemon tart and a strawberry parfait. To drink I had a large glass of Merlot. We also had some tasty olives and bread as an hors d'oevre. A very nice touch was that both after lunch and after dinner we were given a little chocolate dessert as an anniversary present. Breakfast included fruit and yoghurt, and a full English (if you wanted it), with plenty of alternatives.||||Lunch and dinner were on the terrace of the restaurant, looking out over the grounds - a real pleasure on a balmy August evening. ||||Service in the restaurant, the hotel and in the spa was impeccable. Friendly and helpful at all times. Couldn’t be faulted. The spa itself and hotel are high quality, set in lovely grounds, and well worth the visit. It was during the recent heatwave so having a pool close by to cool off was handy!||||I mainly played tennis joining in with a social tennis session and prearranging a doubles match - they have a handful of sessions for beginners, intermediates and advanced so should suit everyone; you can also join in the group coaching sessions or have one-to-one coaching. I just wanted to play this time round, so no coaching for me. The tennis members I met were all friendly and welcoming.||||Meanwhile my partner tried a few yoga classes; it was like a mini yoga retreat for her with the variety on offer - vinyasa, yin, nidra, hatha, yinyang, slow flow etc plus meditation classes (unusual for a health club/gym).||||We treated ourselves this time by booking in the luxury room (Room 7) with its balcony, which was really handy in the heat - we could open both doors and have dinner outside in our private area.
