Having been very unlucky with builders when I first bought my house, I put a lot of time into researching the best company for the refit of our small and dated family bathroom. I found Roots via Houzz, liked their website and thoroughly enjoyed the whole process from discussing initial ideas to the completed project. It was great how my ideas were embraced and how cheerfully unusual requests were accommodated.

I have neither a grand house nor unlimited funds and the project was certainly not cheap (I paid about double of what a well-known bathroom chain quoted a couple of years ago). However, this is money well spent because the whole process was stress-free, interesting and rewarding, met deadlines and agreed budget and I am very happy with the quality and look of my new bathroom.

Everybody involved in the renovation was very professional and pleasant but Brian, David and Rachel stand out. Rachel designed the bathroom, produced very helpful sketches and a virtual 3D simulation that allowed us to get a very good sense of how it would look and feel. Rachel was very patient and imaginative with our tentative and changing ideas and skilful in sourcing the exactly right products for specific requests we had. The whole process was iterative and relaxed, we never got the impression that we are being pushed or rushed.

Brian is an extraordinarily skilled craftsman who masters many trades and puts tremendous care into everything as if lovingly renovating his own house. His attention to detail and the intelligent and thoughtful way in which he approaches his work are second to none. Having builders in can be disruptive when working from home but it was a pleasure having Brian in the house.

David as project manager oversaw the whole process with enthusiasm, commitment and flair. He visited the building site every single day, was very hands-on and easy to reach and communicate with. He quickly responded to any questions and sorted everything out promptly and efficiently. He is clearly proud of the work the company is doing, wants customers to be happy and has very high and exacting standards.

Roots initially fitted a sliding door wardobe for us in our seaside flat and the workmanship was, and remains, excellent. We then enquired about replacing the kitchen which is a small, almost galley-style room . We were fully involved in the design process but guided by Roots' expert designer. At no time did we feel that they were pushing their own agenda: the kitchen was what we wanted. If they thought our suggestions would lead to poor design or bad value for money, they said so; but the choice remained ours.
The removal of the old cupboards and appliances and the fitting of the new was carried out by Roots, on schedule, over a few weeks. There were a couple of small issues during the fitting out process but these were quickly resolved to our complete satisfaction when drawn to Root's attention.
The new Kitchen has now been in use for 15 months and we remain delighted with it. The design, workmanship and fittings are first class and it it is a joy to use.
From our first cup of tea in their office, all their dealings with us have been both friendly and professional, even thought our project was almost certainly one of their smaller ones. Having compared notes with acquaintances who have had kitchens fitted by other firms, we believe that we received a very good service that represented very good value for money. More...
