Services

At Wallace Darwin, we have a skilled and experienced team that can design landscaping schemes that are as biodiverse as possible.

We can also offer initial site surveys to assess the current value of a site and enable a specific plan to be designed that will not be of detriment to the existing flora and fauna that may be present.

Putting nature at the heart of our operations, we ensure that biodiversity can thrive within the scheme proposed. We work with the client to design a scheme that meets both their individual needs and the needs of nature.

Our ethos is to ensure that nature is at the heart of the work we do, our friendly teams will be on hand to produce the masterpiece for all to enjoy. Wildlife conservation is not a distant plan that occurs in the countryside, it's a personal endeavour which can take place in your own garden.

We undertake a variety of primary and secondary landscaping, both to enhance and help enjoy wildlife.

Here at Wallace Darwin, we can offer you two ways to manage.

Option 1:

Entrust us with your project. Our project management experts will manage your site from the onset to ensure that it provides the best kind of environment for wildlife in the least intensive way possible.

Doing this will take the pressure off your hands, let us deal with getting operations are done in a timely manner and you can sit back, relax and enjoy your biodiverse habitat.

Contracts will be devised to pass over the management of a site.

Option 2:

If you wish to stay in control and manage your own site, we can do the physical management. This will come in the form of habitat management to ensure that it meets your required standards and make sure that we can realise your dream.

To make sure that this happens we will create a tailor-made road map so that you will be able to see the results as they appear and make sure that we are in regular contact.

The key to the success of a project is monitoring the final outcome. If habitats are left to their own devises, then biodiversity can very quickly decrease due to a number of reason like invasive species, human disturbance etc. Our experienced and fully qualified staff can undertake condition assessments, species surveys and even habitat survey over the future years to observe the level of biodiversity.

If the monitoring flags up any issues, we will liaise with you, the trusted client, to ensure we can enhance the site for biodiversity.

The Environment Act 2021 requires all newly created habitats as part of a Biodiversity Net Gain scheme are to be secured for at least 30 years post-construction. Wallace Darwin offers regular visits to sites to ensure that these new habitats meet the target conditions set out in the Net Gain scheme and offer further advice if these targets are not on track.

The aim of a Preliminary Ecological Appraisal (P.E.A) is to outline the current vegetation and habitats on site following under guidelines set out by the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) and to assess the potential impacts to habitats and species that could be using the site.

Wallace Darwin will assess your development site to determine; What species and habitats currently occupy the site, what is the base line conditions of site (requirement for Biodiversity Net Gains), what protected species may potentially inhabit the site, and what the impacts will be and how they can be mitigated.

Our P.E.As include:
1) A walkover assessment of the site which includes a preliminary roost assessment for bats and birds if a building is located on site and Habitat Suitability Index for Great Crested Newts if water bodies are located on site
2) A phase 1 habitats map with habitats in either JNCC classification or UKHAB.
3) A detailed report illustrating findings, recommendations and enhancements that could be included within the project.

Should any features be identified to contain the potential to support protected species by our experienced surveyors, then the appropriate protected species presence/absence surveys will be necessary to outline the impact of the proposed works on the land.

Whether you require our assistance in undertaking the calculations, creating your biodiverse landscape, managing your habitats, or monitoring your site, then Wallace Darwin can work with you at all stages of the process.

Biodiversity net gain (BNG), now part of UK Legislation under the Environment Act 2021, is to become mandatory for all developmental projects within England. BNG will become a vital part of planning applications and will influence on how local authorities decide on granting planning.

The aims of our Biodiversity Net Gain reports are:

To establish the baseline value of the site.

Calculate lost Habitat, Hedgerow and River units at the Site of the Proposed Scheme.

Calculate the total number Habitat, Hedgerow and River units which will be created, retained and/or enhanced under landscape and ecological mitigation proposals at the Site of the Proposed Scheme.

To determine whether the Proposed Scheme will result in a net loss, no net loss or a net gain for biodiversity.

to make further recommendations to gain the required 10% minimum net gain for biodiversity and implement CIEEM’s ten principles.
