Following a 20 year career in fashion, I re-trained with the Association of Master Upholsterers and the Cass Art Faculty of Design before starting my business, Vintique Upholstery, in 2013.
From my studio in Sunbury-on-Thames, I re-imagine and re-upholster antique, vintage and pre-loved items of furniture restoring them to their former glory, creating bespoke, statement pieces.

We are delighted with the repair and reupholstering Sharon did to two chairs that belonged to my great uncle. We were looking for a locally based independent business and Sharon was recommended. The process was very easy and professional, from making the initial query online to collecting the chairs when the transformation was complete. Sharon was helpful and understanding of the emotion and sentiment attached to the old sad chairs we took to her. They had springs poking out the seat cushion, torn fabric on the arms and were in need of complete restoration and reupholstering. Not only is Sharon an incredible upholsterer she is a brilliant business mentor too. I booked one of her Spring To Success 121 sessions shortly after launching my own upholstery business and it was more than I could have imagined. The pre-session questionnaire that I was asked to complete meant that the session was totally tailored to my business. The session included advice on marketing, social media, pricing, managing the customer journey and how to structure the administration side of the business. I went away with pages of notes and was able to put together a clear plan of everything I needed to do set myself up for success. Sharon was incredibly generous with her time and after the session followed up with additional advice and feedback. Sharon genuinely cares about what she does and is keen to share her knowledge and experience, making her a brilliant mentor. We have now worked with Sharon over the last 4 years on 6 items of furniture, all but one of which are much treasured family pieces. Which are now beautifully restored and enjoyed by us daily, apart from the blue rocking horse which is at Grandma's! As we are in Southampton each time we have had video calls, used photos and measurements to work out what needed to be done and to choose some fantastic fabric! Sharon is very thoughtful, listens to ideas and helps formulate a vision of the finished piece. Claire is a creative genius 💫 She understood me and my business so well, and created a brand identity that I’m so proud of. I love it as much today as I did 6 years ago when she first created it. My website is getting a huge overhaul after 6 years but my branding is not evolving at all as it’s perfect. I always get so many compliments about the colours the story behind the logo and it’s the foundation to my brand. She has created 2 further versions of my logo for 2 other products I have launched within my brand, but she has expertly kept a common theme, so it’s obvious where these 2 products originate from. My sofa was only 18 months old but so uncomfortable. I had paid a lot of money for a loaf sofa but so disappointed with the feather filled cushions. It was really horrible to sit on. This Demanding Life
If I had to review Vintique in just one word it would be 'WOW' What an experience! Working with Sharon has been an absolute pleasure. When I was gifted a 50 year old chair from my Nana I knew I didn't want any old upholsterer working on it. I wanted someone who shared my values and enthusiasm. Sharon's crusade against furniture going to landfill and her ability to see the potential in even the most dilapidated furniture made me feel I had to get in touch. From the very first consultation where Sharon asked me about the use the chair would get, what the room and light would be like, I knew that working with her was going to be a wonderful investment. The process felt so smooth - Sharon sent me around 15 fabric samples to choose from. All of them matching something we'd discussed in the consultation - whether it was colour, pattern, fabric etc. When I got stuck between 2 designs I loved equally, Sharon helped me narrow it down to the final fabric. She's a wealth of knowledge and reminded me of things I hadn't considered like what fabric I wanted for the buttons and piping. She even sourced a special paint which uses a new technique to get just the right look on the tips of the legs. The chair is now the pride and joy of my living room, it feels entirely new and everyone comments on how unique it is. I would wholeheartedly recommend Vintique for any upholstery you need. More...

From my initial inquiry as to whether it would be suitable for repair and recover, and then the whole process to getting the box back, was easy and professional. The call about what was possible, a video call to see where the sewing box would be placed, and the advice about material and colour were collaborative and knowledgeable. Sharon is a very talented upholsterer. She breathed new life into a little Victorian nursing chair that I have, and it now goes perfectly in our new home. Plus she also covered two dining chairs beautifully. She sources the material and sends swatches out so that you can chose in the comfort of your own home, alleviating the stress, especially during lockdown! I wanted an old chair cushion upholstered and Sharon has been the lady for that job - fantastic from start to finish. I wasn't sure how the whole process would work whilst being in lockdown but having had a detailed phone call and photos being sent, Sharon then picked various fabrics, sent the samples over and once I'd decided on the one I wanted I dropped my cushion to her and she had it done within a week. Sharon had transformed a chair for me a couple of years ago, so when it came to wanting to revamp an old stool that had been in the family for years, Vintique Upholstery was definitely the place to take it. The stool had been in my parents' home for as long as I can remember, but it had been languishing beneath my office desk in recent years just gathering dust. It had to come out from its hiding place to allow the telecoms guy to fit a new connection and I decided the time had come to let Sharon work her magic. Gone the damaged needlepoint top and dreary dark legs and now I have a beautiful and ever so useful extra seat in the living room. Sharon used some fabulous hand loomed linen fabric from my own collection and we picked out 2 contrasting linens for the piping. I am over the moon with the result and can't recommend Vintique Upholstery highly enough. As well as being a superb upholsterer, Sharon is professional and businesslike in all her dealings. Sharon runs a business which showcases her wonderful skills, creativity and desire to make every piece of furniture look more than it's best. She also understands how much clients can be and are, very connected emotionally to pieces which have no monetary value, but hold huge sentimental value to its owner. She treats each piece as if it were her own. She takes time with each item to craft and make it beautiful to fit where you want it to into your home. she's also a mad dog lover like myself so she's very easy to talk to!! Thank you Sharon. My Granny's ottoman now looks fantastic recovered with my favourite Harris Tweed cloth & has pride of place in my bathroom as a working laundry basket❤. Sharon is very professional and takes time to talk you through all your likes and preferences before suggesting possible fabrics and colours. The communication is great and we were confident that our chosen fabric was going to be perfect for our furniture ... and it was. In fact, there were so many sumptuous fabrics to choose from we added extra cushion covers to be made to go with our original footstool to be re-covered. I definitely recommend Sharon & Vintique upholstery. I bought a chair on a whim on Facebook....but immediately knew where to go for help and guidance in transforming it. Who knows exactly how old the chair is, but it looks like a victorian nursing chair. I decided we would update it and this would be a future heirloom for my daughter (age 6). She and I had a great experience going to Sharon's studio and looking at lots of different fabric samples. We found a lovely one that will look great now and in the future (imagining my daughter as a cool 20 something with her own house). I would never have found something so unique without Sharon's help and brilliant eye for design and colour. Although the chair is finished and looks stunning, no photo just yet - it's hidden as a surprise for her birthday next week (in lockdown now, we need all the surprises we can get!) Photo to follow!
