Joe helped me to develop a number of new features for an existing software product. He seems to be a very competent developer and always finds a way to implement my requests (if feasible! ). Joe is honest and trustworthy, and has been a reassuring presence for me and my fledgling startup. More...

Joe co-designed and set up the website of my charity in 2015 and has been supporting me in various capacities ever since. I am very happy with the website, in particular the fact that he made it possible for me to update it by myself . This has been enormously advantageous - especially since I would have found it very challenging to handle it myself without this 'user-friendly' system that he set up. Over the years, I have frequently had recourse to Joe for help on this and other websites I manage and he has always been able to support me. I would strongly recommend Joe to anyone looking for support with setting up and maintaining a website. More...

Joe's been working with us on projects for over seven years now. A rare mix of designer and developer, he has a keen eye for detail, an advanced aesthetic sensibility, and a very thorough and methodical approach to planning and problem solving.

Joe has developed the Classical 100 and Classroom 200 websites for ABRSM, and supports them on an ongoing basis. This has required for him to understand quite a specific set of requirements for users in an educational setting, to produce a design that is both accessible and meets those requirements, and to then develop it. He's had to interact with multiple stake holders whether subject matter experts, or cloud hosting partners or 3rd party tech. He's been professional, helpful and incredibly efficient throughout, and a pleasure to work with. More...

Helping clients to become less afraid of tech - to become more masters of it than servants!

I'm easy to talk to, and I take the time to really understand each client's unique needs and requirements. I am good at demystifying technology, and I help clients to participate in the process so they feel a sense of ownership.

I don't design anything off-the-shelf. Everything is tailored as much as possible to the individual person or business. I am a craftsman who takes pride in his work and in building things as much as possible from scratch. I avoid fads and fashions and stick to reliable, proven, solid technologies and tools.

Yes, I can provide the full service remotely and have been doing so successfully for years. Sometimes it is better to meet in person once or twice at the beginning, especially in the design stage - it's easier to point and sketch when you're sitting across from someone - but it is not strictly necessary.

Services

I can take an entire website project of pretty much any scope through from germ of an idea, through concept, wireframing, design, build, SEO, accessibility, performance optimisation, stabilisation, server setup, deployment and launch.

Depending on the requirements of the project, this could be anything from a simple one-page site built on a static site generator (SSG), a heavy content site built in a CMS, an an e-commerce site built in Shopify with a custom theme and plugins, or a totally bespoke system built in Node JS with a React frontend.

I can take your own designs (complete or partial) and build them faithfully into a working website. I can also recommend and help you implement changes to the design if I think it inappropriate to the purpose or could be improved.

I provide ongoing tech support for clients that need it, either post-launch for a website that I built, or for other miscellaneous needs

Is your website down? Is there an odd bug that your existing developer cannot fix? Have you been left with a half-finished job by an unreliable developer? I can pick up the pieces and help you get back up and running again.

Many websites need integrating with one or more 3rd party services. I have built simple and complex integrations with Salesforce, Stripe, DotDigital, Eventbrite, Mux, and others.
