Tom was a pleasure to work with on our loft and side return extension plans. His designs were thoughtful, implementing our ideas and also making helpful suggestions. He always communicates clearly and gave us great advice on surveyors and building compliance people, as well as recommendations for builders (one of whom came out top). Tom also successfully steered the whole planning application making it totally painless for us. He was happy to work on a few iterations of the design. I also found his fees reasonable. I would use Tom again for any future project! More...

I would definitely recommend Tom. He is easy to speak to, responds quickly and most importantly, came up with a great design, which we were very pleased with. Any changes were done swiftly. He communicated well with the structural engineer, planning and buildings control and even recommended builders. Looking forward to getting our project started! Would use again and recommend to others. Many thanks Tom for guiding us through this process. Sophie More...

After moving to the area we were looking for an architect to design a renovation and extension of our 70s property. We considered quite a few options and decided to go with Tom.
We are very happy that we did: his feedback and ideas have helped us create a design we are really looking forward to realising. Several things attracted us to Tom in particular: one being the process that he offers, with initial proposals being iteratively worked on to achieve the perfect design. He was also able to visualise our future home in VR which was really helpful for us to visualise the space!

Tom was absolutely brilliant. He took on my application part way through the process and showed the difference between a great architect and sub standard one. His attention to detail and communication was on point and made a bad situation into an acceptable result. I do feel like I would have had more complete and agreeable plans if I had used Tom from the very start and that would be my only regret. I have no hesitation with recommending Tom and would happily use him again, in my humble opinion value for money ! More...

I consulted Tom to extend our kitchen and living room, add a ground floor extension to accommodate a utility room and play room, and a loft conversion to create 2 extra bedrooms.

Tom was great from start to finish. He really listened to ideas about what was needed in the house. He is very professional and talented with a meticulous eye for detail. He came up with a variety of design options to chose from which were all great to see and compare against. He is very knowledgeable and approachable which really helped when I had technical questions that I didn't understand. He has given a few contacts of builders, structural engineers and building control officers which has been really useful. He is very down to earth which makes him easy to work with. His quote was very competitive and after comparing him with other local architects, he is definitely great value for money.

We are very pleased with Tom’s design of our extension. He happily accommodated a design change. He kept in contact by email giving us advice as needed. The next steps were made easy - we obtained 3rd Party Wall approval from our neighbours and an Approved Development Certificate from Trafford Planning. We would certainly recommend Tom. More...

Tom has recently designed a single storey extension for me and really listened to my ideas and also provided alternatives for me to consider. He visited the property to talk through the initial design and provided a selection of drawings for me to review. Nothing was ever too much for Tom, even making changes to drawings when I changed my mind and supplying a specific drawing for my kitchen planning process.

He provided me with contacts for building regulation consultants and structural engineers with no obligation to use them and managed the whole planning application process for me too.

Tom checked in regularly with me and made sure I understood each step and took time to explain the building regs reports to me and answer any questions I had throughout the project.

He made the whole process easy for me and I would absolutely recommend him to family, friends and strangers.

Q&As

I love meeting clients and helping them to achieve the vision for their project. I appreciate that many people don't have any previous experience of extending their home or building anything new, and I enjoy guiding clients through the process.

I love the freedom and flexibility of being my own boss. I have a young family and it lets me manage my time around them, whilst focusing on the type of projects I really enjoy.

I am a highly accomplished architect with over 18 years experience in professional practice, qualifying in 2010. This has included two and a half years as an architect on the London 2012 Olympic Stadium, based in the site cabins throughout construction. As well as working as a Project Architect at Niall McLaughlin Architects, the highly acclaimed and current Stirling Prize winning practice for the best new building in the UK. What I would describe as “Michelin Starred” architecture.

As well as previously running another practice, overseeing dozens of domestic extension projects across the UK, I have also spent 3 years comprehensively renovating my own home, and a further year working directly for a local building contractor.

As far as my style is concerned, I don’t have a definable approach - each project is unique. I listen to your ideas first and foremost and suggest precedents I think will work for your home.

I will setup a private Pinterest account for your project which will allow you to collate your thoughts as well as adding my own ideas and inspiration to the mix.

I also offer a Virtual Reality experience at your home as part of my service, which apart from being fun, can also give a very strong sense of space, and help to refine your design.

Whilst it is better to visit in person, it is certainly possible to deliver projects remotely, via email, phone call, Zoom, Whatsapp, Dropbox, and so on.

In the past couple of years from my base in South Manchester, I have worked on domestic projects in London, Shropshire, Wiltshire, Hull, Stoke-on-Trent and Sunderland.

Services

We work on all types of domestic extensions including rear, front, side, single storey, two storey, loft and garage conversions.

We design new build single family homes and currently have a £1.1m five bed detached house on site in Knutsford, Cheshire.

As well as domestic loft and garage conversions, we also work on converting buildings to residential uses. We are currently converting a redundant three storey office block into 9 high spec apartments in the centre of Stockport.
