The staff are friendly and inviting. You're made to feel welcome immediately! The menu is varied and what I ordered (chicken skewers) came fast and hot, also delicious and well seasoned. Went today for the first time and was welcomed with smiles and great staff.
From the waitresses to the head chef to the owner personally came to the table to make sure if everything was upto standard and even customised a dish for my daughter.
Will definitely be going again.

So let me begin...

Well our lovely city Dundee has an array of eateries to suit all budgets and dietary requirements however if you only eat halal then your selection is generally curries or chicken and chips takawa or grills that I must say that after walking past Horeb several times I was intrigued as I have never tried afro Carribbean food before as so my curiosity lead me to message them and ask if the food is halal...to my surprise I received a quick reply stating that everything is halal except from the steaks, happy days so needless to say I had to give it a try today and this is what I thought.

So for those who don't know The Horeb Food co is opposite marks and sparks just near cafe Nero...
You may have passed it and thought nothing of it due to its humble exterior. (Please read on)
Don't be put off or fooled. Not everything good comes with glitzy bright lights and fandangles and bangles. Humbleness, modesty and simplicity are traits often overlooked in all aspects of life.
Horeb don't need all the unnecessary nonsense like franchise eateries do...fancy sofas and lampshades for the Instagram generation... because their food speaks for itself. I kid you not when I say I couldn't put my food down or stop eating because it just tasted too good.
So upon walking in it had a very relaxed vibe from the start... reggae music softly playing where it's not drowning like in some eateries but just softly in the background. The staff are all friendly and not pushy at all yet at the same time not ignoring .. that right balance...

There's a special booth in the restaurant perfect for special occasion meals or larger groups. And the menu looked very appetising I was intrigued about the special spice blend as it was mentioned quite a bit and boy oh boy it sure is special.

Unsure of what to order I asked a staff member what they would recommend and I showed them the meals I was thinking of...

Not being brave enough to try plantain I was relieved to see there were familiar items on the menu such as hot dogs and burgers, chicken skewers, seafood. After much thinking I opted for the Horeb burger which came with two toppings chips and a proper salad and a glass of tap water. I say proper salad because many places the salad is added just as decoration to fill up the plate...I was delighted to see orange in my salad and fresh greens, sweetcorn and radishes, carrots ...it was one lively tasting salad indeed ...and that's just the salad...the chips...oooh wee absolutely delicious...that special spice blend makes all the difference and as for the burger...I thought I'd be lady like with my eating and cut the burger in half instead of diving straight in and making a mess...just look at the pics...the meat...proper meat with that special seasoning, cheese and red onions...sooo darn tasty even the juices from the burger tasted good and I was licking my fingers instead of using the tissue...by this point lady like eating had gone out the window and all that mattered was me and that burger. By the end of half the burger I was stuffed and I usually eat big meals plus dessert after. But this beauty of a burger...half of it had done me...I didn't want to force myself to finish it as I didn't want to topple the line between comfortably contently full and overdoing things. So I asked for it to be wrapped up for me to eat later.
Seeing the dynamics of how the staff interact with one another shows a lot about the company and management. The staff dynamics were good everyone looked like they were enjoying their job and this is reflected in not only the taste of the food and it's appearance but also the service from the staff.
Unlike franchise restaurants where everything tastes the same, it's great to see unique independent businesses. And also there's too many franchises that I try to support independent local businesses where possible.

So all in all it came to a tenner which personally I think is worth it. More...

Went here for lunch just randomly as we were passing, had never seen it before. The food was incredible, so tasty and flavorful and the salmon was cooked to perfection. My husband and I popped in today for lunch. Shop was very clean and fresh, staff friendly (obviously still finding their feet) , food was amazing.
The salmon was lovely, prawns were well seasoned and the Jollof was spicy and tasty. Lots of flavours and kick.
Our girls joined us later and had shakes which they both said were Delicious.
I’m hoping this place gets a fair chance and people visit. More...

We picked the stuffed eggplant and a rice. My friend loved it but for me it was too hot. They made me another one with no spice to take home. So if you don’t like spicy it’s best to tell them in advance.
