Our Dog Training Centre in Kilwinning is the only facility of its kind in Ayrshire and provides training classes for dogs as well as private one-to-one training and behavioural consultations, doggy daycare and a grooming salon on-site where you can bring your dog for some well deserved pampering.

Our Cockapoo loves going to Dogworks Doggy Daycare, we usually book her in twice a week - mainly for socialisation with other dogs as we live out in the country. She is always so excited to get in through the gate to be with her furry friends and she loves all the staff. The girls who run the classes are really friendly, helpful and have lots of good advice and tips. Would recommend this to anyone with a new puppy or even an older dog with any issues. I’m currently at puppy school with my 5 month old toy poodle Teddy & Karen is brilliant! It was a bonus at our first class to hear her background & her story to becoming a dog trainer.
When my puppy was struggling with one of the tasks, she came over to help. Karen is very hands on and has a very soothing voice when speaking to the dogs. She also has a team of lovely ladies to help, so no one is left struggling! These ladies are also great & they notice quickly when someone needs a hand.

We have attended level 1 and 2 training with our toy poodle Alfie. We love training with Karen and Alfie has responded well to the positive reinforcement taught in the classes. We are now signed up for level 3 and can’t wait! Alfie also attended a puppy gym class to increase confidence with different sounds, smells and textures. This class was so much fun and gave us some great ideas to try at home. We put Alfie in doggy daycare one day a week when he was younger to help aid socialisation with other dogs, with a view to taking him out when he got a bit older. However he loves it so much that he’ll most likely be visiting once a week ‘til he’s old and grey! What do you love most about your job?
I'm Karen and I'm the founder and Head Training and Behaviour Consultant at The Dogworks.
Dogs are my world and I've always been around them since I was a small child. I had my first dog as a teenager - a GSD called Max and have never been without a dog since then, and now live with 3 rescue dogs, Pip, Woody and Jess.
I love to see the bond develop between owner and dog as their training progresses and want every client I meet to be instilled with just a little bit of my passion!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I've worked with dogs for over 10 years and began my career in Spain where I became involved in animal welfare. I volunteered in rescue kennels, fostered dozens of dogs and puppies, and assessed and trained dogs for adoption and rehoming, and was lucky enough to be selected to attend The Dog's Trust International Training Programme in London in 2013. I came back to Scotland at the beginning of 2015 and set up The Dogworks to provide the best of care and training for local dogs. I now work with more complex training and behaviour cases and specialise in rescue dog rehabilitation.
Why should our clients choose you?
I believe that dogs will give more when they're enjoying learning and I only use positive reinforcement or reward based training methods. I'm always learning and along with the rest of The Dogworks Team, regularly attend workshops and seminars as part of my continuing professional development. I'm currently studying for an Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management and am also working towards becoming a Kennel Club Accredited Instructor and am proud to be members of the following professional associations:

Dog Training Classes
At The Dogworks, we don’t train dogs - we train the people who love them!
Our classes are specially designed to build confidence and success as dogs master skills in a simple, step-by-step process and curriculum is vet-recommended. Class sizes are small so we can offer more personal attention for you and a unique training plan for your dog. And we utilise only the best positive dog training methods, which your whole family can easily master and embrace. You will be actively engaged in your dog’s training, working as a team as you learn to communicate more effectively with your dog and build a better bond. We have lots of classes and workshops from structured 'life skills' classes and the Pet Dog Ambassador program to workshops, fun scent games, tricks and specialised courses.
Our trainers are experts at teaching The Dogworks' Training methods, games, and solutions. We have training plans for shy or timid dogs, overly-excitable puppies, and we understand that some dogs need special help with housetraining, playbiting, or playing with children.
All our puppy classes include lots of playtime in a safe environment so your dog can learn to become more social as well as learning to listen to you!
We offer evening and weekend classes in our training centre in Kilwinning or at nearby local venues depending on the course. Group classes are either 4,6 or 8 week programs and classes meet for once a week for one hour.
One to One Dog Training
The Dogworks' easy-to-learn methods often require little homework, as training is incorporated into your daily routine. Often a simple change in the dog/human relationship can be enough to stop unwanted behaviours.
Creating an environment for success is a key component for any training. Having a trainer in your home ensures the training really fits your dog’s personality as well as your goals.
In home training is customised to your dog’s breed, age, and temperament. You’ll learn how to work with everyone in your home, including visitors, guests, and people too young or otherwise not able to participate.

Puppy Training Classes
Start off on the right paw with our Puppy School, learning age-appropriate behaviours in a fun, relaxed environment, designed to introduce your puppy to basic skills that will set the foundations for later learning. During the 6 week course we’ll focus on getting your pup’s attention, sit, down, stay, polite greetings, accepting handling etc.
We tackle common problem puppy behaviours like jumping, nipping and mouthing, and begin work on loose-leash walking and coming when called. We'll also give your puppy some playtime when they can learn those valuable social skills needed to grow into a well rounded adult dog. This course is highly rated by our students and our experienced trainers will help you set your pup up for success!
