So after three days of training with Doggo (aka Hera) I have learnt that she is a terrible Guard dog(ok we all know that) . Never going to be a bomb sniffing dog as she has been spoilt rotten living the life of luxury and has no real concept of working for a living BUT will track you down anywhere so long as there’s snuggles and a ball as a added bonus at the end ....oh and she’s a dam good pub dog and all round good buddy More...

Craig spent half a day with us and explained in depth the theory behind the steps we needed to take to communicate with our pup; due to his breed and German lines he needs to be trained in a different way. Craig made this really easy for us backed up with videos and lots of really useful information. Tasker is engaging with us really well and I know if we need any further help Craig will be available whenever we need him. Our beautiful Maisy, the crazy Collie is now 15 months old, we bought her from what we thought was a legitimate farmer in Wales. Sadly it may not have been the case. We picked up a very frightened and what turned out to be a very poorly puppy dog whom we took straight to the vet when we got home. Sadly she was that poorly she was kept in for a week on a drip.
Months on she is such a sensitive soul but by talking about her instincts and her drive to do what she does, Craig put a training plan in place to work on her focus, grass roots training which within days had produced such a positive outcome for Maisy and us.
Maisy would be completely anxious when visitors come to the house to then over greet them looking for approval.
She loves her walks but would worry herself, bark and pull when she saw other dogs and people.
Following the plan to a ‘T’ and not letting our very bright Collie ‘test’ the plan we are astounded by the progress we see each day.
Neighbours and friends have been to visit who are astonished by the difference they have seen in our beautiful girl.
We are now starting to see a difference out on walks but know that we must not falter and rush the process.
Craig continues to support us via his dog man messenger service which I personally find invaluable. Craig gives me the confidence in my own ability to help my dog have a rewarding relaxed and enjoyable life she so deserves after such a rocky start to her life.
It wasn’t just Maisy that needed training, it was me, I can never thank Craig enough.

Although people have tried to explain it to us before, they didn't give us the theory behind why we were doing it. He made it look very easy but it's motivated us to follow through because we actually understand now. and after seeing our dog during the session, we know it's possible to get him to behave the way we want him to. We saw Craig due to our border terrier Colin, being totally over stimulated by pretty much everything! He would lunge and bark at other dogs and people because he wanted to greet them and was intensely excited. He paid absolutely no attention to us outside of the house, had no loyalty to us and was more motivated by any external stimulus than by us. His friendly nature made us wonder if it was worth paying to see Craig as we didn’t have a problem like aggression with Colin, but as we’d tried general training classes with absolutely no success we decided to give it a go as holidays, days out and walks weren’t improving no matter what we had tried and Colin’s frustration on walks was clear to see. I wish we hadn’t waited so long as within a few days of seeing Craig we could see improvement and a few months later he is like a different dog. He pays attention to us, is generally much calmer and most importantly he is much happier and is not displaying frustrated, self soothing behaviours all of the time as he was before. Today we’ve had a follow up session at a really good price as Colin continues to be an excitable boy in very stimulating environments and we wanted to know how to help him direct that. Craig was happy with Colin’s progress and now that Colin is calmer and paying more attention we’ve been able to move on to new techniques to help him direct his excitement and desire to chase and have fun. I’m excited to be able to put the new techniques into action as I know they’ll get results after our previous success. I can’t thank Craig enough for helping us to understand our Colin and enabling him to be a calm and happy boy. I highly recommend! More...

He’s not as easily distracted and is more aware of us being there. Craig has also given us the next steps to try in a few weeks time to help with Rex pulling on the lead and we will hopefully be able to let him off his lead in the coming weeks which is the goal. As Rex is our first dog is was so helpful for Craig to see Rex and us in our own environment so he was able to point out what needed changing and what Rex needs in terms of his food etc. Both us and Rex had an enjoyable and relaxed morning with Craig and learnt a lot! We’re looking forward to seeing further improvement in Rex and would definitely recommend the dog man! More...

Well I rescued a 4 year old working class pedigree springer spaniel 9 weeks ago. He was so neglected and untrained starved and unwalked. I was so sad when I saw him I had no choice but to save him from a life of neglect. Being disabled I was unable to walk the dog (originally named molock on his papers but then called barny and abused. Then taken to a foster home and neglected and starved and not walked) I named him the dude mk2 after the last dude I rescued. I knew he would be recoverable but with my disability it was too much. So I had help from the dog man. I was amazed as soon as dude saw him he was in tune. This guy mentally connects with your dog and know how to change their behaviour in an instant. In the nearly 9 weeks I saved this dog he has gone from a nasty and completely uncontrollable dog who doesn't care about me or anyone. To a seriously almost obedient and good dog. Thanks to the dog man the dude mk2 will have so much a better life than he would have had if I had tried to train him myself. I had problems with recall, pulling on the lead and him generally ignoring all instructions given when outside the house. Dexter’s was fascinated by the outside world and his focus was on anything and everything except me. Today we went on out first off lead beach walk post training and there was a staggering difference. Although he still took himself off to meet other dogs on the beach, he recalled when asked and was a lot more focused on me and the rewards I had in my pocket for him.

We still have a long way to go, but by using the simple but effective training methods that Craig taught us during the 3 days, I am confident that Dexter’s focus and willingness to obey commands will grow stronger each day.

Q&As

Knowledge is at the heart of what I do

I believe you should never stop learning, especially if it’s a subject you’re passionate about. That’s why you can be confident that I’ll teach you the latest techniques to use at home. Although I have an FdSC in Canine Behaviour and Training, I continue to be a keen student of the way animals think.

They say that dogs are a man’s best friend. I certainly believe they can be – with the right training of course. That’s where The Dog Man can help. Through my 1-2-1 programme, I work alongside owners to develop confidence and practical handling skills.

As a former police dog handler, trainer and ex-military man with more than 20 years of experience, there isn’t much I haven’t seen. I’ve trained dogs for high-profile sieges, arrests and royal events. I’ve loved every minute of a career that’s taken me from Staffordshire Police to The Royal Army Veterinary Corps.

It also made me realise where people often go wrong. Sharing my professional insights and showing how these proven dog training techniques can be applied in the home became an inevitable progression.

My background in canine psychology means I regularly get referred by vets' clinics across the Midlands and I have worked as a re-homing consultant for CAESSR, a national charity which rescues Cocker and English Springer Spaniels.

Then there’s that ‘extra bit’ I give to every dog. Put it down to gut instinct if you like. I suppose it’s why other people refer to me as The Dog Man and why it’s a name that’s stuck!

I love what I do so much, I’ve even developed my own super-premium hypoallergenic dog food. It’s an exciting development for me and builds on everything I’ve learned so far about what makes a contented and healthy pet.

I’ve worked alongside some of the country’s leading pet nutritionists to create an extensive range of nutritionally complete foods that are prepared without wheat and wheat gluten. The result is The Dog Man’s Choice – a great solution for dogs with sensitive tummies and for pooches of all ages and breeds.

So if you are looking for a happy and well-behaved family pet to be proud of, call on The Dog Man. Alternatively, to take a look at my online shop, go to www.thedogmanschoice.co.uk

Dog Training with The Dog Man

When the family dog misbehaves or acts 'oddly,' many owners wonder where to begin, or indeed how to solve the problem at all. Simple things like getting your dog to sit, or stop overreacting to other dogs, feels like climbing a mountain with no peak.

Whether your dog presents common or not so common behavioural issues, please don't worry. I can and will guide you to correct this - dogs are actually happier when you take charge. 'Firm, friendly and fair' is my mantra.

All you have to do is:

Be open to ideas
Practise at home
Have persistence

Take action: book your training session today and nip bad behaviour in the bud. You don't need me to tell you: a well behaved dog at home and in public is a joy to be around. Once you have the skills to understand your dog, the stress of keeping him or her under control fades away. And that familiar embarrassment? A thing of the past.

After 18 years experience as a police dog handler, I'm now involved in cutting-edge canine research with local universities. Over the years, I've fine-tuned original training methods that are easy to learn and get excellent results for dog owners, just like you.

As well as professional advice on optimum nutrition , which massively impacts your dog's attitude, your training sessions will include:

Demonstration and clear explanation
Modern techniques that don't cause discomfort for your pet
Outdoor training so your dog is calm and confident in different environments
Friendly support and encouragement - I care about this as much as you do!
Every 1-2-1 training session is tailored around the individual needs of you and your dog.

My clients see the most positive results this way because general classes are usually too generic - 'one size fits all.' In that circumstance, it's no wonder motivation fizzles out - without 1-2-1 support, trying to train your dog is slow and frustrating.

With 1-2-1 attention, you and I will make adjustments that can dramatically improve your dog's attitude and obedience. Just send a few basic details and I'll come right back to you with a plan you can have confidence in.

CANINE NUTRITION

Diet is the cornerstone of a dog’s wellbeing. Providing the right nutritional balance is fundamental to their health, happiness and performance.

Over the last 20 years The Dog Man has professionally worked, trained and coached thousands of dogs – developing a unique insight into the importance of high quality food intake.

People now widely accept that ‘you are what you eat’. Your dog is exactly the same.

Unfortunately the health and well being of our dogs is at threat from their closest friends – their owners. Not deliberately – but through a lack of knowledge and understanding and often through a desire to please. Ultimately we must remember that dogs are domesticated carnivorous mammals.

They depend on you for the quality and composition of their food intake. Completely.

However, many ‘complete’ dog foods simply fail to provide the necessary nutrition essential for your dog’s health.

THE SOLUTION

To combat the inconsistency in quality seen across the dog foods available today, The Dog Man now offers his own solution The Dog Man’s Choice – guaranteeing consistent quality and a premium diet to his clients’ and customers’ dogs.

The result is:
