I have been training with Mel at the Wonder Mums group for around 5weeks now. I’m absolutely loving it! Since becoming a mum, I’ve struggled to juggle childcare and the ability to build my fitness levels. The Wonder Mums class has become a secure place where I can bring along my little boy whilst being able to get a real work out in. I have already noticed a difference in my energy and fitness levels and confidence and made some great friends. This class is like no other mums fitness class, Mel truly puts you at ease and is very friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend this class. More...

Now in my 3rd month at the Body Box Mcr, suits me down to the ground, really friendly people who you can get to know, no silly gym posers like you get at the commercial gyms. The instructors Mel, James & Rick are well trained, really supportive and chatty and every session is laid out differently to keep challenging you. 10 out of 10 amazing place. More...

The Body Box Mcr is a fantastic gym with its own lovely community of friendly, supportive people. The trainers are amazing and know every single client personally, so everything can be completely tailored to your personal goals. It’s an ideal place to come and train in small, capped groups, or have one-to-one personal training. Workout options are carefully prepared each week by people who know how to get the best results, but you still have the autonomy to choose what you want to do in each session. There’s a really nice, inclusive group of people there and new members are always made to feel welcome. If the idea of joining a gym is in any way daunting to you, come here. We all started somewhere - at the beginning of my personal fitness journey, I could barely do the warm up and now I’m lifting over 100kg. There’s something for everyone - you get as much (or as little) support as you need. Can’t rate it highly enough! More...

Just started my second week and I love it. I have Crohn's making it hard to eat specific foods like fruit and veg and seeds so I have to get my nutrition from high protein meats, fish and supplement drinks. However, the training is well tailored for me, fun (I actually really look forward to the next session) but I'll ache for a few days after. The trainers are great and everyone is very welcoming. There's no showing off or "peacocking" everyone supports each other. We all really want to see each other succeed. Whatever your level this will be the best thing you'll ever do! More...

After years of unhealthy long work hours sat driving or sat at a desk and then being a taxi for the children most evenings and weekends it finally took its toll and my wife and I knew something had to be done.
Having only started a few weeks ago we already feel better and developing new shape.

As a couple it gives us the chance to do something together, challenge ourselves and improve lifestyle of which has meant the children get to enjoy our time as we have more energy with them.

The team devise new workouts every time you go so you are never bored. Yes it's a challenge, but you have people around you who are or have been in the same boat encouraging you along.

As for the money. Worth every penny. If you consider what you may spend on going out or on your car, isn't it time to spend the same on your health?

After doing my regular gym routine for years, I felt myself getting bored with regular mundane exercises and felt that I was not getting the results that I was after and felt really demotivated. My eating habits were not great either. After joining VPT, I can honestly say that the training and combined nutrition Meal plans really works! I was surprised to hear from work colleagues how I looked and how my body shape had changed in a matter of weeks. I felt much happier and was no longer feeling sluggish and tired. I would 100% recommend the team at VPT, they push you to get the results. More...

In the past Ive been a member of the local gym in romiley, in which I got bored with and was looking for a more personal touch, I couldn't believe my luck in finding this private gym, John and Mel are great trainers and whilst I'm always worked hard we always have a great laugh along the way, would recommend VPT for a lovely alternative. I always look forward to the work outs which I NEVER did at the local gym I went to, great place with great members, never thought I would be obsessed with going to a gym but I love VPT More...

Started training here a few weeks ago. I have always trained fairly regularly but now it's fun!! At VPT you will receive high quality, sensibly focused instruction, better than most personal trainers I've had. You also feel the real sense of community you would get from a group session but as the groups are small you don't get 'lost in the crowd' or left behind.
The team are knowledgable and supportive, they genuinely care about each individual and if you don't turn up or disappear for a while, they gently encourage you back which really helps if you struggle with motivation, like I do.
I am noticing massive differences in the way I look and feel, others are noticing too!!
We all support each other and every accomplishment is celebrated by the whole team. Give it a try, I promise you won't regret it. Big thumbs up

I have been training with the guys at VPT for about 7 weeks now, done about 20 sessions and am loving it, both the sessions and the results. My pants are literally falling off me and my shirts are like tents, I have had to have my pants taken in by 2 inches and have dropped a whole shirt size, not cheap but worth every penny. This is not the whole story but very good indicators.
Thanks to John, Mel, James and Steve and all the guys and girls who help to make this journey fun, inclusive and strangely addictive.

I hired Mel as my personal trainer in January 2017 after I had had surgery on my shoulder following a car crash. To begin with she came to my home because I was scared of both exercise and gym. Over time and pain she encouraged me to visit the gym. I can only say what a positive experience this was both mentally and physically. I have made new friends which is a bonus but also my whole family now go, meaning it has been influential on my partner and children. Cannot recommend highly enough. Give it a go More...

Last year I started training again. Most people my age have some longer term aspirational goal, or a health scare. Me? I just knew I needed to do something again, the scare came later.

That said, feeling persistently tired and having constant junk food cravings aren’t good. I knew that doing the mountain walks with the Freshwalks crew a few times a year, and the full circuit of Marple walk three or four times a week with the pooch, wasn’t going to battle off the middle-aged spread and reduce the chances of getting ill. The stats for sedentary males are a worry - diabetes, heart attacks, tumours, high blood pressure and depression. The comment that stuck with me was that if you can’t find the time for yourself to exercise, expect to give up time to be ill.

Five months on I can’t even begin to describe what a difference I’ve felt. I joined Body Box and Melanie Duffy, a personal trainer who led my first session, has completely changed by life. There are no machines, no pools, no spa treatments. It is as back-to-basics as they come. Lots of free weights, industrial tyres to flip, medicine balls, punch bags, kettle bells, prowlers and hanging bars. In jest, I say to friends it is not so much a gym as a medieval torture chamber. And I love it.

But the real experience comes from the people I train with. We do our own bespoke workout programmes, but always finish off with a High Intensity Interval Training session. We are as eclectic a group as you could pull together. But the support in the group sessions like ‘HiiT Squad’ ‘Saturday Suicide’ and the punishing ‘Chipper’ is just phenomenal.

Someone asked me last week whether I’ve lost any weight and to be honest I haven’t, but I have changed my body shape, but far more importantly, that's all made me feel sharper and fitter and happier. Sure, some days it hurts, after intense leg work I end up walking like John Wayne the next day, but the warm downs and stretches usually work well enough to avert too many aches. It’s costing me money to buy new trousers as I’ve dropped two waist sizes, even if my pot hasn’t quite shifted yet. I know I have a long way to go, to be as fit as I can be, but the simple act of doing the kind of exercises which were flooring me when I started is such a rush.

I had a health scare, but my recovery was swift and knowing I’m more physically resilient made me face up to my own mortality and self control more. It’s also made me determined to enjoy the gym sessions and take my wellness seriously. I now have two clinical conditions under control and don’t want another. I was talking to my dearest friend John Dixon about it all recently. We traverse through these ages. Catching up with friends used to be about what great fun times we've been having, then we started taking work seriously, then how our kids are. Now we swap stories of our ailments. There's another age to it, that sort of runs in parallel; what we're both doing about it. John mate, love that you found cycling. It’s taken a while, but I’ve found my fitness kick too.

Thanks to the power of Facebook, I received the post about the 2 month challenge that started at the beginning of November. The post talked about how 'Body Box MCR' wasn't your average gym as in it was free from the stereotypical aspects I struggle with and find at the majority of gyms.

For most of my adult life, I have not been a fan of gyms. Primarily, I felt that I was being judged by those around me who seemed super fit and professional gym goers. There I was, overweight, self conscious and trying to hide underneath my ill-fitting gym clothes. Over the years, I have spent lots of money on membership I didn't use and personal training I didn't enjoy.

My health is now at the forefront of my mind as well as becoming happier and more like the old me. When I first joined the gym, I attended the group sessions and it was just as it was sold to me. Everyone welcomed me with open arms and I didn't feel judged at all.

For personal reasons, I am now seeing Mel on a 1:1 basis and she is thankfully putting me through my paces. I find it hard to describe the gym I go to when others ask. They look at me strangely when I say it is an industrial unit which is freezing cold but warmed by the love and care inside (slightly cheesy I know)

Well done if you have managed to stick with this to the end but in a nutshell..... give this gym a go! You won't look back... you might wobble a bit like I have but once on track again, you'll wonder why nobody had told you about it sooner!! Thank you Body Box Mcr and Melanie Duffy

I have been training at the Body Box Mcr for over a year now and it has literally changed my life. I joined as a reluctant member who needed to make a lifestyle change. I was always intimidated by commercial gyms but from the minute I joined, I was embraced by a fabulous group of likeminded people. Mel encourages you to be the best version of yourself and there is a strong focus on mental health as well as physical. It is a great mix of weights and HIIT that is tailored to everyone's physical ability. I have made friends for life, all ages, shapes and sizes rather than the usual gym bunnies and I could not recommend this gym enough. Joining Body Box is the very best decision I have ever made and I have surprised myself that 16 months later, I am still committed. I would give 6* stars if I could! More...
