Good food and kind hospitality! Group of four seated quickly on a weeknight. We tried a little bit of everything, the okra dish, dipping sauces, searing prawn fry, and veggie fried fritter/pancake were especially good. Will come again.

Used to come here frequently when I lived just over the road on Gloucester Terrace until 2009. Have recently gone back and the place, the food and the staff are still just as great as they were years ago. Have since recommended The Begal to anyone who cares to listen and have had lots of good feedback from friends and business acquaintances. Keep up the good work! Absolutely smashing place!!!——-Update two years later: consistently good quality, attentive and welcoming staff. Although not normally a fan of mild curries, I tried the chicken korma, coconut rice and peshwari naan and was absolutely not disappointed. For a place that hasn’t let me down once over the course of 10 plus years, 5 stars are completely in order. More...

The Bengal is a fairly good restaurant with predictably good food. The prices are reasonable for London. The service is fast and cheerful. The dishes I have tried are are good. The saag paneer was tasty, the vindaloo was sneakily hot - not overwhelmingly hot. It could use a touch more cinnamon. The butter chicken was tasty, though it tended more towards the Tikka masala end of the spectrum. The lamb Rogan Josh was mellow and rich tasting. The papadum were ok, and the chutneys were very good. The mixed citrus pickle was a bit salty, but the flavor made it worthwhile. The naan seemed to need salt. Three, over several visits were all a bit bland. This is an easily remedied problem, though.I'll look forward to my next visit! More...

I first stumbled upon this restaurant on my last visit to London a year ago and found all my favorite dishes I used to have when I was studying here some 50 years ago . ....Madras , Bhuna , Vindaloo curries and not least chicken tandoori , all done quite deliciously . Currently I am again visiting this great city and have just paid another visit and found the food still very good . I have however noticed a few negative reviews made in the past month and wonder if the absence of the regular chef had anything to do with it .....told he took a month off during the Ramadan fasting , just finished . Another thing I suggested to the owner ....try to maintain the consistency and not to use tiny tin prawns for prawn curry and always use fresh king prawns for the purpose ( there are currently 2 choices , prawn curry and king prawn curry , the latter tasting 10 times better ). I hope to return once more before my departure More...

I have been visiting (eating in and takeaway) The Bengal Indian Restaurant for nine years, and am still keen on tasting the delicious authentic Indian and Bangladeshi food in The Bengal. I have tried many Indian Restaurants (highly recommended) in London and locally in Bayswater, the Bengal is one of them, and I must say the Bengal would be one of the top rated Indian Restaurant in London for not only the quality of food but also the value for money (much cheaper than many others) and generous portions. The wide range of cuisine including vegetables, fish (boneless), chicken, meat, fresh salads, very good selection of wine, beer etc. The place is spacious with two floors and good hygienic. Staff are very friendly and skilled. The chef really understands the order (of food) and cook accordingly, e.g. I always ask less spicy and less oil (as I maintain a specific healthy diet programme) and I am very pleased to say I have never been disappointed. I would highly recommend others (people) to try The Bengal on your own or with family and friends, or try a takeaway. I am sure you won't be disappointed. More...

I've been there for first time coz of their best rating and reviews on google and you know what,? I wasn't disappointed. The food was very authentic, being a Asian I were looking something like that and the Bengal was top of the expectation. The Naga Bhuna (king prawns) and Zaithun ( lamb)was recommmeded by the staff and it was absolutely fantastic. I bought my friend and she loved it too. Definitely recommending for a authentic Indian meal. Top of that, the staffs are very friendly and up for help u out with the menu if you're not sure what to choose. So Bengal all the very best and coming back soon for sure More...
