I approached Substratum1 in the middle of my build as my architect or builder didn't tell me I needed a structural engineer until the foundations for my extension were dug!
From my initial conversation with Dharmesh of me explaining the time pressures and a brief of the project, I had a completed design in less than a week and signed off by building control a few days later.
They are not the cheapest as I received a few quotes in the days after appointing them but they delivered a great service and were available when I or my builder needed them and I would appoint them again if I had to do it all over again.

I was introduced to substratum by our architect who had worked with them before. We carried out a full refurbishment of our flat in Kensington and we needed confirmation if 3 walls we needed to remove were load-bearing or just partitions.
Mehran from substratum was on site the next day after appointment and the next day we had a letter confirming the walls could be removed. They were much faster than everyone else and the service was top notch!

I was very happy working with substratum1, they were initially appointed to prepare the structural design for our project, which involved multiple extensions and major structural changes inside the house.
Their fees were on the high end compared to others but I decided to go with them as they were clearly knowledgable and had prepared designs like ours before. The designs were prepared in a timely manner and they worked well with the rest of the professional team, namely our architect and party wall surveyor. They also prepared additional drawings/information with a very quick turnaround that was required to obtain party wall consent.
During construction, we appointed them as our project managers and they were super helpful in keeping on top of the project while we were travelling/working. I would have no hesitation in recommending them and have already done so.

Structural Design
Framing layout, beam specification, and calculation reports. Just what you need if you’re intending to make any structural alterations, such as an opening in or remove a load-bearing wall all the way to building a new structure.
All of our designs and calculations are carried to meet the requirements of Building Regulations Part A – Structure.
Method Statements
Depending on the scope of works and complexity of the project, method statements can be provided to outline the approach to construction management. Typically, method statements outline the proposed works and how they will be carried out to ensure that construction is carried out safely and efficiently with minimal adverse impacts. Throughout construction, the method statement will be constantly reviewed and any changes or improvements will be re-submitted and approved by the relevant parties.
Temporary Works Design
When undertaking construction works, which involve refurbishment, partial or whole demolition, or working near other buildings or structures, a temporary works scheme will be required.
