What inspired you to start your own business?
Star Protection Services Ltd was started by Mark Hawkins in 2012 as a result of him wanting to utilise his vast knowledge and experience of the security and licensing trades having worked on the doors from his early 20’s and also running very well known venues, as a manager, in and around the City of London.

Since it’s inception, Star Protection has always strived to provide the highest level of customer service – both to clients and to visitors to our clients’ venues/events. Admittedly, as all companies do, we have occasionally fallen short of our very high standards but have always reacted to this feedback and built and learned from it.
Over the last 10 years, there have been many changes to the Private Security Industry, many causing mixed opinions. We believe that you must move with the times and that’s a business practice we at Star Protection Services have adopted from the first day of trading.
For the last 3 years of the 5 years we have been trading, we have been ISO9001 accredited. This accreditation proves we are committed to making sure the company operates and is managed to stringent, government set standards.
The core management team has over 45 years’ experience within the security and licensed trades and we try to pass on as much of this knowledge as we can to our staff - both old and young, new and old.
Door Supervision
We specialise in Door Supervision and all of our staff are SIA licensed.
Long gone are the days of the ‘Bouncer’. Today’s Door Supervisors are trained and licensed individuals, focused on customer and venue safety.
All of our Door Supervisors have a ‘can do’ attitude and often receive training above and beyond that which is stipulated by the SIA - This can include first aid, current licensing legislation and law and control and restraint training. They are well presented, personable, professional and polite.
With over 50 years experience in the security industry, our management team take pride in passing on their acquired knowledge to all members of staff both new and experienced, young and old.
We have supplied Door Supervisors to venues including quaint village pubs to a London ‘Superclub’ which often saw over 2300 patrons at any one time.
We currently supply Door Supervisors to pubs and bars, wedding venues, stadiums and hotels across Kent and the south east.
All of our Door Supervisors often go above and beyond their job role and take great pride in their jobs. As well as offering you that added peace of mind, our staff work seamlessly alongside you and your staff enabling you to concentrate on running your venue/premises.

Event Security
Our event security staff have a proven track record in making our customers’ events, festivals and gatherings a safe and enjoyable experience. We can supply both SIA licensed customer safety staff and also non-SIA licensed customer safety stewards who hold a minimum of NVQ Level 2 in Crowd Safety.
We are able to offer the complete event safety package. From customer safety staff to medical staff and even traffic management staff.
Star Protection Services have been the sole security provider to events ranging from 100 people at charity fairs to 5000 people at music festivals. We have provided crowd safety solutions to events including the opening/reopening of Dreamland in Margate, the 3 day music festival ‘Skabour’ in Folkestone, the one day festival ‘Summer Soulstice’ in Barnet and the Vicar’s Picnic in Maidstone.
We are happy to advise and consult with you on your plans both before and after the event and attend any SAG or licensing meetings, giving you that extra piece of mind.

Sports/Stadium Security
Over the past few years, Star Protection Services has built close working relationships with two well-known football clubs in Kent. We currently supply SIA licensed staff and NVQ 2 Crowd Safety Stewards to Gillingham Football Club and are also the sole supplier of SIA staff to Maidstone Football Club.
We work closely with both the stadium managers and Kent police, as well as any visiting forces, to ensure a safe, fun and enjoyable experience for both home and away supporters.
Our staff have been praised from the highest levels for their professionalism during very high profile matches at both League 2 and National League levels.
We can work alongside yourselves and supply staff to compliment your existing staffing, either weekly or on an ad-hoc basis or we can supply as many staff as you need on a matchday. Static/Site Security
In times of austerity, there is a correlation between economic downturn and theft. With the price of copper and other materials constantly on the rise, opportunist thieves can strike at any time.
Star Protection Services Ltd have experience in working on sites ranging from single house conversions to multi-plot developments for large national companies.
Whether it be a random call check every hour or at least one guard on site 24/7, we have the staff and the experience to fulfil your requirements to help keep your equipment, supplies and staff safe.
As well as being a high visibility deterrent at night or when the site is closed, our staff can work with your staff and take on roles such as checking vehicles on and off site and only allowing traffic on site that should be there and making sure that nothing leaves site that shouldn’t - Allowing you to concentrate on your staff and your site. We can also deploy security dogs and handlers for even more peace of mind and to cover large areas. Security Dogs
Many people still envisage security dogs as rabid, snarling ‘guard dogs’ that will tear chunks from anyone that gets near them. Today’s security dogs and handlers have to go through rigorous training and obtain accreditation and also hold various insurances to be allowed to work. Security dogs are a valuable asset, as well as being a very visual deterrent, they can cover a much larger area than a lone guard. Should anything happen on site or at a premises, these dogs can also track a subject over a very big area.
As well as ‘guard dogs’ we also offer sniffer/search dogs. Whether a large event or a club door, these dogs are trained to sniff out drugs and various other substances. Often the sight of a sniffer dog is enough to deter any person wishing to enter your premises with any drugs secreted on their person.
Security dogs and their handlers are a valuable asset to any site or premises and very often eradicate nearly all crime just by being a presence. TV/Film/Location Security
Do you have VIP’s or production crews on location either in a city centre or a remote location? We can keep you safe and secure. We have extensive experience in providing security to film, radio and TV companies - including week-long live broadcasts. Our staff consists of ex-armed forces, police and security professionals who all give you total reassurance and complete peace of mind.
On top of guaranteeing the integrity of your production on location, we also offer a full front of house team. This team can be the ‘meeters and greeters’ and are versed in ushering any guests or audience members into the auditorium/studio but are conscious of the time sensitivity during filming or live broadcasts.
All of these staff are SIA licensed and so can react to any situation within the auditorium or studio, should the need arise, but at the same time being proactive to reduce the risk of any unexpected events occurring.
We can also offer our own fleet of vehicles from executive saloons to large Viano’s to guarantee your VIP’s or crew arrive on location on time and in comfort, rather than relying on local ground transport.
