How can someone tell if their loft is suitable for conversion?
There are many variables to consider in terms of planning and structural design but the number one thing to look at is the ridge height.
This is the measurement from the top of the loft joists to the underside of the ridge board (highest part).
If this measurement is around 2.3m or above a loft conversion is probably viable.
Run us through the different stages in the loft conversion process - what’s involved?
We have the Needs & Options review first and foremost. This guides us and the client to what is actually required and desired. This is the most important stage and not to be rushed. Time and effort on this stage means projects come in on time and budget.
The next stage is planning. To be legal so the loft conversion can be sold to the next owner as a loft conversion some form of application is required. These involve architectural plans.
After approval the next stage is structural engineering. Proper design here means the build will operate smoothly and on budget. Good builders will want good plans to deliver a great build.
The next stage is building control. Building inspectors inspect the engineering plans and builders work.
