14 cancellations over 9 months – 100% AVOID AT ALL COSTS!
One of the most unreliable trades I have ever dealt with. In the end, I’ve been left with a partially painted multi-colour roof (images attached in a review elsewhere), with me finally giving up after 14 cancelled visits to complete the work over 9 months.
After exercising so much patience, I am now cutting our losses, and initiating court proceedings to recover the costs for the initial wash (as I now need another wash) and for removal of the existing paint so I can start again.
The wash was done in Dec 2022, but then due to weather the coating had to wait until March. This was fine, of course, but once we got to March, that’s when the problems started. The cancellation reasons ranged from too hot, too cold, too wet, too windy, illness, equipment not working, personal issues, and just forgetting about the booking. Many times, we weren’t even told they weren’t coming, with us having to ask when it for to around 10am.
After each cancellation, we had to continually chase for another date, at times requiring daily chasers. This process itself was extremely stressful and painful, yet we continued to exercise patience.
Before booking the job, we had all the usual marketing, including ‘we’re real roofers’ etc, and Smart Shield seemed professional. It went downhill once the first wash payment was released (to the Director’s personal bank account and not the company account).
Now we are getting regular questions from guests, family, friends, passers-by, our Architects, and others on the condition of our roof and it has become embarrassing to answer the question.
I have found a very reliable contractor now ready to rescue this job and sort out his competitor’s mess.

What inspired you to start your own business?
We started the company after company after growing up in a roofing family but really having much, We got the first part of the business started with £2,000 princess trust loan and started working as one man band type operation, After investing all profits made and investing time, effort and passion to make it work, We now have x5 teams of x2 guys covering nationwide doing roof restorations, roof cleaning and moss removal and wouldn’t change anything for the world, Our hearts are still 100% in the business and we still to this day keep investing profits, Time & Effort into the business making sure we keep our brand looking nice, clean and professional with lasted equipment, nice branded vans, uniforms and creating that professional family like business, We complete Industrial, Commerical & Domestic projects all over the Uk, But there is still no job to big or to small for us, We all work very hard to set us ourselves aside from your average roof cleaning company coming from a roofing backgrounds we are roofers cleaing roofs, not cleaners cleaning roofs, Which is this industry means a lot and we like stand out from your exterior cleaners, Window cleaners& Drivway cleaners trying to clean roofs, We all work very hard as a team from the office staff, to the guys out on the road working on your roof, we all together like one big happy family and treat all our clients with respect they deserve and appreciate all contracts large or small.
