I was gifted a block of singing lessons with Hannah Wiggins of Singin' Hinn for my birthday. Hannah was chosen for her specialism in jazz and folk singing, which is where my main vocal interests lie. Booking the sessions was a breeze, the system was hassle-free and simple to navigate.

During our first session, Hannah immediately made me feel very comfortable, we had a very broad and edifying discussion of what I hoped to achieve from the teaching and why. When Hannah describes her teaching style as 'holistic', she really means it: I got an immediate sense that she was eager to understand me as a person, and was put at ease by her empathetic and congenial approach to doing so. Unbeknownst to me, Hannah's philosophy as a teacher is about much more than just singing, she swiftly recognised the impact of certain life events on my confidence and made me feel her commitment to helping me find and use my "voice" in all areas of my life.

The second half of the session was focused more on the actual learning material: Hannah explained that I would come to understand the anatomical mechanisms of my larynx and appreciate how my voice produces different sounds and notes, that we would cover the basics of musical theory, and that the sessions would include lots of practice time to help me develop a wider vocal range and strength to my voice. I was nervous to actually sing for Hannah but, despite me bracing myself for critique, her feedback was warm, encouraging and genuinely complimentary. Most importantly, it was realistic, which I liked. If I could already sing like Whitney Huston, I wouldn't need or want singing lessons - but I greatly enjoy singing and in Hannah I have found a teacher willing to give me honest and constructive criticism that I am sure will really help me get the very best from my natural ability. I'm really excited for the upcoming sessions and I feel truly delighted to meet a teacher who is clearly very experienced and knowledgeable, but also interested in me as a person, as well as my voice. Brilliant vocal coach. When I came to Hannah, I was beginning to physically lose my ability speak through bad technique/practice. With her guidance, I managed to regain and develop a healthy, dynamic voice I could confidently call my own. Eventually I got a place on a Popular Music university course, for which Hannah also helped me prepare for with some music theory basics in addition to the practical technique she was teaching me. Overall, I would highly recommend Hannah as a vocal coach. I would not be where I am today without her help. More...

Hannah is a superb teacher. She takes time to ensure that you fully understand what you doing and why, which is so important when working with the voice. She makes learning fun without pressure and I can feel and hear the progress I have made in less than a year. I have had both one to one lessons and lessons over FaceTime/Skype. The latter are more focussed and a great way to continue classes if time or distance are an issue.
