Hi, my name is Shakil and I’m a BSc Maths & Econ graduate at LSE who achieved a 2:1. For me, Maths is a skill more than a subject and, as a result, I believe the key to succeeding in securing top grades is to practice until perfection. My passion for Maths comes from the fluidity of problem solving in it, how one step leads to another, converging to one answer which ties everything together. The satisfaction after figuring out a step in your calculations after struggling is the reason I pursued Maths to degree level. As a tutor with over 3 years of experience and one who has taken the new specification of Maths GCSE and A-Levels, I have a high level of knowledge not just in covering topics but also in exam technique. My main aim when tutoring is to make sure students understand what they have been taught by applying their knowledge to questions and problem-solving situations – this stimulates the students’ mind to really think about what they have just learnt. Furthermore, teaching in a style to suit the way my students learn best is of top priority to me; adapting my teaching to make sure each student learns best is an aspect of my job I value very highly. I do this by giving examples that will relate to them more or using methods they are more comfortable with. I have found this helps in exam situations as they are more comfortable and will succeed more.
