I've been to Gawain for a few sessions and can tell you he really knows his stuff. Breaking you with tough cardio is not what he's about. Being intelligent about how to use technique and body type to get the most out of exercises is a much better way to exercise and this is what Gawain offers. Strength, conditioning and fitness is my goal and I'm happy to say that training with Gawain really delivers. More...

Excellent personal trainer and facilities. Gaiwan is hugely experienced with a deep knowledge of all things fitness. His passion is very apparent when training with him and he reads widely on exercise, human physiology and diet. Having trained with him for a few months now, he is the most impressive and knowledgeable trainer I have observed, a great motivator and very personable. Sessions with him are fun, challenging and incredibly effective. Gaiwain will tailor your workout to your needs/goals, age and lifestyle – I have experienced significant increases in strength, better posture, decreased body fat and generally feel better and healthier. I've been going to see Gawain at Set for Life for a few weeks now and am loving every session!
I used to be a gym "goer", but after a while there was a distinct lack of enthusiasm, and session times got less and less to the point I stopped going.

Since starting with Set for life I've noticed big benefits, not only feeling fitter I've noticed I have a lot more energy and look forward to my sessions with Gawain!

Despite my enthusiasm for keeping in shape, my gym visits had always been unstructured and sporadic, so 6 months ago I decided it was time to take it more seriously. I was aware of the popularity of boot camps, but as I didn't enjoy being shouted at in a cold, damp and muddy field at school in PE, this wasn't likely to appeal to me now! Likewise, the idea of me joining one of the traditional ‘spit and sawdust’ gyms held little appeal, as I've found the whole experience (and many of the clientele) very intimidating. I had good chat with Gawain, discussing what I wanted to get out of my training (yes, bit of a cliché but “tone-up, lose fat”) and having liked and understood where he was coming from, I quickly came to the conclusion that personal training was the way forward. Now, six months later, and the results have been excellent. Not only have I achieved my initial goals, I also feel a whole lot better. This has enabled me to enjoy my passion of cycling more than ever, and my PB at ParkRun continues to improve. I can even do 'chin-ups' for the first time ever!! If you’re in a similar situation to me (40-something bloke, enjoys sports but has let himself go a bit), then I urge you to have a chat with Gawain. His knowledge and enthusiasm will soon rub off on you to the point where you can’t wait for your next session. More...

Having blasted through my 30's with a high pressure desk job on a regular diet of beer and curry, there was no surprise that by 40, I had high blood pressure and was on the edge of becoming diabetic! A lifestyle change was needed, not just a gym membership. Having spent the last few years training with and learning with Gawain, I've completely transformed not only my physique, but my entire lifestyle. I’ve been training with Gawain for about a month after being recommended by family members, and although I’d never tried resistance training before, I’m 100% persuaded by his methods. The sessions go by very quickly because each one is varied and challenging, and they completely outshine the classic cardio training I’d done in the past. Gawain encourages you to concentrate on slow, intense movements – correct posture and form are a priority – and I’ve got measurably stronger and fitter. I’d highly recommend Gawain’s training to anybody: he is very professional, careful, attentive, motivating and knowledgeable, so you feel you’re in a very safe pair of hands! More...

Resistance bands, weights,reps, sets - it all sounded very complicated but Gawain consults about lifestyle and goals, devises and takes responsibility for your programme and provides the knowledge and expertise so that it is always changing and challenging. He teaches proper technique with heavy weights and slow movements. Each exercise is demonstrated and explained, then he monitors you so that you receive instant feedback allowing you to perform each movement safely. He records and tracks your progress for you.Gawain's experience means that he senses the point at which the exercise is becoming too difficult (the point at which I would give up!)and encourages you to go just beyond it so that the body is challenged and forced to adapt. That's what gets results! Gawain's manner is friendly and professional. He is skilled at motivating and gently encouraging without allowing you to be easy on yourself. The sessions are short but challenging. For me, the exercises have quickly brought benefits such as increased strength and muscle tone, improved posture, flexibility and balance. It is without doubt the best work out sessions I have ever been involved in. Now in my 30’s, I can say I have never felt as strong as I do now. Work-outs in the past have had quick surface results, but with this, I can feel myself changing internally, building up, getting properly stronger. It is without doubt the best work out sessions I have ever been involved in. Now in my 30’s, I can say I have never felt as strong as I do now. Work-outs in the past have had quick surface results, but with this, I can feel myself changing internally, building up, getting properly stronger. Not only stronger and fitter, the training has improved posture and levelled out muscle imbalances created by the usual 9-5 desk job! I worried lifting weights would make me bulky but I needn't have worried. I'm more toned, a better shape and much stronger but definitely not bulky.

Hiring a PT can be intimidating, worrying about whether it will work for you and whether you'll be fit enough to cope. Worried that you'll fail and be disappointed. Gawain is great; fun, supportive and incredibly knowledgeable. He'll work with you to achieve your personal goals and then the ones you set after you smash the first ones!!

I have been training with Gawain once a week for about 6 months now and I love it! Gawain is an excellent coach and puts overall well being ahead of fitness goals.He and Kim are very friendly and want to move you to a place where you will be the healthiest you can be but without it being a fad you will give up on over time. They provide very tailored help and support and if you try them you will not be disappointed. 20 plus years of relatively sedentary office work, and the associated challenges of raising a family and dealing with life’s ups and downs had led to a pattern of comfort eating, resting and drinking which whilst seemingly therapeutic and enjoyable at the time was clearly having a negative impact on my health, with weight gain and general lethargy becoming the norm. I knew I needed to do something, but never got around to it, until Gawain introduced his Set for Life nutrition and fitness program to us. I think my wife and I were the ideal candidates…in our mid 40’s, having let ourselves go but knowing we needed to do something about it. The program has been outstanding. My wife and I have seen fantastic progress. Gawain has tailored the nutrition and exercise to our individual needs and carefully managed the exercise sessions to sync with our increasing strength. Gawain is a superb coach - meticulous, encouraging, attentive and challenging...just the motivation we needed. My results have exceeded my expectations, I’ve now lost 3 stone and feel more confident in myself than I have for years. I feel more energetic and I’m seeing changes in my body shape. The weight loss has been gradual and the diet has been realistic, manageable and not too strict, providing a set of rules around which your create your own meals which can still include occasional treats!
