I specialise in providing high quality music and lights for family celebrations. An experienced event DJ, I started DJing during my student years with a beach bar residency abroad in the summer. Since then I played at a roof top terrace Wedding in a London Soho club, a chateau in Bordeaux, Golf Clubs, a Platinum Jubilee celebration, local music festivals, garden parties at private residences and this year's NYE party celebration.

Our wedding just wouldn't have been the same without Phil! He was very helpful and knowledgeable in the planning stages on how to set up in a marquee, and very accommodating for our many varying requirements.
His equipment and set up is all top quality. Simply put, he's a joy to work with!
The night itself was great, we had requested a very eclectic range of genres and songs, but Phil was able to string them together to get everybody on the dance floor and to continue dancing to the end of the night. Unpretentious, fun and smooth - great DJ!

Phil was amazing at my husband’s 60th. The music was spot on, being of mixed heritage we had some Latino /Cuban music mixed with 60s and some more modern tunes. He got everyone on the dance floor! It was a fabulous evening in no small measure down to Phil. The lighting was awesome and we have some great photos that he took! Thanks so much Cristina! I loved playing my favourites sixties tunes during the garden champagne reception. Such a beautiful setting too with the sunset. The barn decorations were great and complementing everyone being dressed up. A lot of fun! I must say I was in my element in this multicultural environment too, practising my (very poor) Spanish when I had the opportunity. You and your family were all so hospitable and kind. Thank you, I had a great time!

A huge thank you to Philip - the DJ at our wedding. He did a fabulous job.
He took a short playlist with a few songs, as inspiration, and converted it into an evening of music better than anything we could have come up with ourselves!
The best part is that he managed to get everyone dancing ……..and kept them dancing for the whole evening. Weddings are always tricky because you have a diverse range of age groups but Philip absolutely nailed it. It was exactly the evening we were looking for!
I would not hesitate to recommend Philip for your party.

We used Phil just over a week ago for a summer garden party mixing 50 something parents with teenage children.
Phil really helped with making the party extra special with various light effects in the garden (under trees etc) and also a second DJ station outside the marquee for some chilled summer vibes for the first 2 hours of the party.
The main disco was in a marquee and Phil managed to 'pivot' between the 14 year olds requests, and some 1990s Manchester classics and then move into some more 'dance' classics that got everyone on the dancefloor. The lighting effects were great and Phil worked with us throughout the planning to final party delivery to ensure we got what we wanted. I would thoroughly recommend.

I can't thank Phil from Select Sounds enough for the incredible job he did as the DJ for our wedding. From our first meeting, he was an absolute delight to work with.
He took the time to understand our music preferences and offered helpful suggestions to craft playlists of ideas. He comes across as laid back but also knowing exactly what needs to be done to be be prepared.
He was also the most genuinely enthusiastic about our wedding, of all the people we worked with, which was absolutely lovely!
On the big day, Phil went above and beyond. He took the initiative to adapt to changing circumstances, seamlessly adjusting the music and lights to suit the atmosphere and keep the party going. Not only did he deliver a fantastic performance, but he also went out of his way to help look after other suppliers, ensuring everything ran smoothly.

Phil was excellent. We had an 80s neon disco in our kitchen to celebrate my hubbies 50th and we danced so much our knees hurt for 2 days afterwards 😆. Phil was great - he was so attentive and organised leading up to the party. He arrived early to set everything up. He was kind, polite, organised and funny. And he played a brilliant set on the night which kept everyone dancing all night! Whatever he did was like magic. None of us wanted to stop, despite being 50. The teenagers were on the dance floor along with the adults. Honestly the best night we've had in ages. One guest said it was one of the best parties she had ever been to. Phil included all the songs jimi wanted, brought extra lights and mics for the speeches, a smoke machine, uv lighting and even lights for our garden. He was very much a part of the party, and certainly of its success, and yet was understated and cool all the way. We would definitely book Phil again. We had such a laugh. Thank you so much. More...

I booked Select Sounds Disco for my wife’s 50th birthday party. I didn’t have any recommendations but found SSD through Bark.
I was therefore a bit unsure what to expect and whether I was going to get someone good.
However, Philip was excellent from the first contact. He took time before the event not only to meet with me to understand what I was looking for in terms of music likes/preferences but also attended the actual venue in advance to prepare for the event itself.
The equipment, speakers, lights and whole set up looks great - very professional.
He clearly has a real passion for music, getting people dancing (gauging the mood) and an endless selection of songs (for the inevitable requests).
The party itself was a great success and Philip really added to that - playing music long after he really should have been packing up to get home.
I would definitely recommend Philip and Select Sounds Disco for any event.

I hired Phil for my 21st birthday party and he did not disappoint. Leading up to the party, Phil was on top of the game, asking me what music I liked, doing lots of research, checking out the venue and keeping me updated. What’s the secret to keeping a party dancing all night long?
Preparation and planning goes a long way. I always consult with my customers ahead of time to prepare a tailored playlist. I also tend to take requests on the night as they can direct the party onto a different path, it's a way to 'crowdsource the vibe' and that's usually fun for everyone. Any good DJ needs to adapt and sometimes change tack in real-time to maintain a fun vibe throughout.
How would you describe your ‘style’?
I’m an Open-Format DJ mixing music genres from Pop, Indie, Ibiza, Rock, Motown, Disco, Reggae, 60s till now. Always aiming to pick the best tunes from each genre and era. I am known for my music selection and ability to rock a dance floor! My personal style is approachable, friendly and low key, I don't tend to take centre stage, I aim to make it all about you and your guests.
What do you love most about your job?
Bringing joy to a party through music. Seeing people having a great time together and having fun!
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have always had a passion for music, then I learnt mixing skills, so I had two key ingredients already there that I wanted to share with people!
