Scavian: Maths Tutoring

I am currently an A-level Further Math, Math, Physics and CompSci student and intend to study Physics at University. I received the highest mark for my Math GCSE in my state school with 206/240. This allowed me to attend one of the best independent schools in the UK.

I praise myself in breaking barriers and “converting” students by increasing their confidence and making them enjoy math. When students feel blocked or lost, they are unable to enjoy the subject as much. In fact, one of the reasons I teach to other people is because it helps me revise myself while helping other people( This is called the Richard Feynman Technique).

As a student I was left incredibly frustrated when I had left the math class more confused than when I had entered. My goal is to be the opposite of this and increase my students understanding to the point where they are able to answer what I like to call Curveball Questions (These are questions which you cannot prepare in the traditional way for but instead require a deeper understanding). These Curveball questions are the key to unlocking a high grade and are therefore essential.

I always use a variety of different methods and strategies and can make the online lessons interesting and fun. I know and can anticipate the usual pitfalls students fall in and I have developed bullet proof methods to help students overcome this.
