Q&As

Being able to help build a bond between dog and owner and ensuring the dog has the best life possible.
Being able to give the owners the tools to resolve problems with their dog which are causing stress and anxiety in the home.
Educating owners to be able to see their dogs behaviour in a completely different light

I have always had a passion for dogs. It wasn’t what I did first in my career - I studied law. However, I was never completely happy with my choice of career and studying dog behaviour was a welcome hobby which I realised gave me so much reward that I studied more and more until I was able to work with dogs full time.

I am uncomplicated
I get results
I have a natural affinity with dogs
I am approachable and easy to talk to
I don’t offer a one-size-fits all approach. All dogs are individuals
I don’t just show you and abandon you - I work with until you tell me you’ve got this.

I can provide an element of help remotely but nothing beats face to face especially if it is an ingrained problem.

I do work online, especially through the pandemic, we had no other choice and I found that, if the owner sent through short videos, it helped enormously. Online is quite good for follow up sessions or to tweak training or answer any questions following the face to face session(s).

I do a LFT everyday before attending a session
I wear a face covering in the home and I remain a safe distance from clients
I carry hand gel which I use all the time

Services

This involves me coming to your home, observing the behaviour you wish to change and working with you to resolve it.

It is difficult to know how many sessions it will take to resolve a problem. This is dependent on its severity, how ingrained it is and how much time you have to devote to the training.

The first session consists of observing your dog in its environment, talking to you and your immediate family and chatting with you to help me understand what you want to achieve. This session will also include the start of resolution training.

Sometimes the first session may be all that is required but usually it will take several sessions; it really depends on the problem.

Whilst this has been a godsend during the pandemic, it is not a real replacement for one to one sessions and again it really depends on the problem.

To diagnose why a behaviour happens requires me to observe the dog’s environment. For instance, is it fear, anxiety, aggression, lack of understanding etc. All can cause the problem but the solutions are completely different.

To try to overcome this, I would ask you to email a short video of the dog displaying the behaviour and what triggers it. We would then have a zoom or teams meeting to discuss the video, as questions and try to find the stem of the problem. We can then talk through ways to start to resolve it.

Online sessions are very good follow up tools whereby we can discuss how the training is going and any obstacles you are facing.

This service usually starts before puppy arrives.
It provides helpful advice to allow your puppy to settle into your lives. What to do. What not to do.
Basic training guidance, potty training, feeding, sleeping arrangement etc.
After puppy has arrived, I return to help with any obstacles you may be experiencing such as play biting, socialisation, accidents in the house, chewing and so on.

Setting your puppy up to succeed and be well balanced doesn’t just happen. Seeking help early and getting right, builds a wonderful bond and a happy life for both dog and owners.

Adopting a rescue dog is one of the most rewarding things to do. I know, I have done it several times.

However, rescue dogs have specific requirements and the benefits of specialist advice at the outset (or even before the dog arrives in your home) cannot be over-estimated.

Owners fail to realise that bringing home a rescue dog is completely different to bringing home a puppy.

As an owner of many rescue dogs, having specifically trained many, volunteered in rescue for many years, I am well placed to advise on bringing them into your home and resolving the unwanted behaviours they bring with them or develop after they arrive.

I run workshops throughout Cornwall for owners wanting to understand their dogs. Learn about why dogs do what they do. Building a deeper bond with their dog.

Each workshop covers different topics. Are very interactive and uncomplicated. We don’t bombard you with science and psychology.

Workshop usually happen on a day at the weekend as this is often a day that most people can manage. Dogs are not present. You can learn so much about dog behaviour, body language and clear communication and much more.

A group of owners quite often get together to book me for a workshop in their area. Around 12 people makes a good educational group.
