I am an experienced teacher, ex Deputy Head, Head of Science, Examiner and Head of Year.Whilst tutoring, I aim to coach pupils to work smarter using either the Sciences , Maths and/or learning skills . Focussing on the learning skills e.g. retrieval, dual coding, elaboration, spaced practice and interleaving, the academic foundation is laid, allowing success in all areas of study. Science GCSE tutoring as well as Biology A levels.

What do you love most about your job?
Championing children… seeing them develop confidence and resilience en route to academic success.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Opportunity to work on a 1:1 basis with children again. Deputy headship took me away from this. I saw the need to support parents in parenting their teenager through careful coaching of their child. Seeing pupils struggle to come to school due to anxiety issues etc. alerted me to the need for online quality provision.

Yes , using Google Meet or Zoom. Pupils must have a camera on their work or use Google docs to allow for us to collaborate effectively.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Moving to online sessions when someone tests covid positive.
Tutoring/Academic coaching
If it is purely tutoring, an initial online meeting to discuss the needs of the student with possibly a baseline assessment. Thereafter focussing on knowledge acquisition, checking for understanding, learning how to learn, exam skills.
If academic coaching, an initial baseline assessment will allow identification of skills and knowledge deficits. Thereafter each session will focus on an area of the curriculum in terms of retrieval practice, key words, creating study notes , elaborationchecking for understanding through exam practice.
