Niki was able to inform us how Tosh would respond more effectively to recall commands, how she could stop jumping up, and walk to heel. She also encouraged us to respond with nibbles when she obeyed us, to begin with, cutting back slightly at meal times instead. What do you love most about your job?
I’m a dog-mad, people-loving dog trainer. I’ve been animal-mad my whole life. After a 30 year corporate career, I was in a bicycle accident in 2014 that really made me look at what was important to me. It led me back to my childhood dream of working with animals and I re-trained to be a games-based dog trainer.
I couldn’t love my job any more! But I don’t train your dog. I give you the belief and knowledge for YOU to be your dog’s best trainer for a calm and happy dog.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I love people, but I love dogs even more! I can’t think of anything better than being able to help people have the best relationship with their dog. I think I have the best job in the world.
Plus my own rescue pup Bodie has taught me so much. I share so many common struggles with my clients, I know exactly how they feel when they feel like they're going backwards!
Why should our clients choose you?
I set-up Pup Talk to bring fun and easy training games to as many dog-lovers as possible. Playing the right games with your pup gets amazing results. And, importantly, you both have fun while you’re doing it. I want you to feel that dog training is an enjoyable part of daily life. It’s not a chore to be done and ticked off a list as soon as you can.
At the start, I walked dogs and did puppy drop-ins. I wanted to work with as many different dogs as possible. I took on clients’ dogs that couldn’t go on ‘pack walks’ because of behaviour struggles they had. Being reactive to other dogs, nervous or especially fearful. I particularly love working with dogs with challenges and seeing their personalities change as they grow in confidence and calmness.
I’m now a full-time, games-based dog trainer, author and podcaster and I help clients and their dogs on-line and face-to-face.

Online training in your own home is so effective. You’re training your pup in their normal environment, without all the distractions of the outside world. Once you both get good at the games at home, you set your dog up to succeed when you take the games outside.

What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
Online sessions are a great way to get training for you and your pup. Outdoor training is also very low risk. You bring all your own food and equipment. I am talking you through what you need to do, so I don't need to have any physical contact with you or your dog.
Behaviour Package 1 (for 1 dog)
Video behaviour consultation, training plan preparation and first 4 training sessions (£475).
Ideal for behavioural struggles including nervous or reactive dogs, dog or human reactivity, noise reactivity separation anxiety and abnormal repetitive behaviours.
Pup Talk The Pack dog training & support community
The most friendly and supportive online dog training membership. Includes private Facebook group with direct access to Niki French and membership website with regular new training games. Training content tackling common behaviour struggles, plus a growing library of expert workshops. Access training modules at your own pace. Join live Q&A sessions and fun challenges to keep you accountable and motivated.
£30/month (£300 annual membership).
Training Package 1 - first 4 sessions (online & in-person locally)
If no behaviour consultation is required, you can book your first 4 sessions (£310).
