Amazing service from a great team of professionals.
Have signed up for weekly drum lessons!

1 December 2018

Have to disclose I was a piano teacher there. Great place to learn music, the best in Suffolk (at least) for guitar and drums. Chris and the team are super friendly, competent and kind. Sheet music shop and guitar shop too.. Was sad to leave there, but moved to Norwich. More...

Q&As

Music is good for the soul and we’re all about creating it in a fun, friendly and relaxed environment.

Planet Music Academy is the creation of drummer Chris King. After studying at the London College of Music where he enjoyed tuition from some of the worlds best educators, Chris decided to adopt these teaching techniques and setup a facility where he could offer drum kit tuition to all ages and levels. With a working model, Chris then expanded the tuition on offer by enrolling a team of talented and inspirational instrument tutors - all of which closely follow the PMA core beliefs and values; ensuring lessons are well planned, customised to suit the individual, modern, relaxed, friendly and most importantly…fun!

There is quite simply nowhere else in Suffolk like Planet Music Academy. It’s a fun, friendly and relaxed place where musicians can get creative and the next generation of musical talent can bloom.
Established in 2012, Planet Music Academy offers a contemporary approach to music learning.

Services

Here at PMA we offer electric, bass, acoustic and classical guitar lessons. Our team of tutors support students along their learning journey by providing well planned lessons; covering important technical exercises, theory, song studies and, where required, graded courses.

Lessons are tailored to the individual - if it’s learning the newest Ed Sheeran hit or mastering a Clapton riff, our tutors can guide you through with the knowledge, patience and support required.

For the beginner student, PMA can provide you with the right style and size guitar for your taster.

Not sure about what style to learn? Our FREE taster lesson offer is a great opportunity to meet with a tutor who can introduce you to the different styles and advise you.

Younger learners are advised to start with a “classical” guitar - these are often referred to as “nylon” or “spanish” guitars. The advantages of these guitars are that they are relatively cheap to buy (we stock a wide range in our showroom), the nylon/silk strings are softer on young fingers and they come in a wide range of sizes. These guitars are a great option for younger beginners who can then progress onto either an electric or acoustic guitar - and don’t worry, all the skill and techniques are fully transferrable.

Our Drum Kit and Percussion lessons are held from our 2 sound-proofed drum kit rooms which feature both student and tutor drum kits, PA system and latin percussion. PMA use DW® and Tama® drum kits with Zildjian® Meinl® and Sabian® cymbals.

Our approach to drum kit lessons is simple - students are encouraged to focus on technical exercises and discover how these can be applied across the kit as grooves and fills. Solid fundamentals allow a student to develop ideas and patterns with ease. Students can explore different musical styles and begin to understand the various techniques required.

Graded courses are available. Our tuition team ensure lessons are customised to suit the individual - if a student wants to rock out to their favourite tracks or study swing band charts, our team are ready to assist them.

PMA recommends that 5/6 years is a suitable age to start learning the drum kit. Our tuition rooms feature kits that can be adjusted to fit smaller drummers! Tempted to try the drums?… Book your FREE taster today… 01394 383700.

All voice lessons focus on developing vocal range, pitch, tone production, breath control, enunciation, ear training, stage presence, and more. All lessons include warmup exercises to improve breath control and to avoid damaging the vocal chords.

Before the age of 12, the vocal chords have not yet fully matured. Our instructors take great care to focus on repertoire that is fun and enjoyable while still nurturing to the developing voice. These songs may include children's songs, Disney songs, and pop songs.

PMA is proud to offer violin, viola and cello lessons for all ages and levels.

Our team of tutors emphasises the importance of learning a solid technical ability, ensuring pupils are well set up for their future in music, and avoid straining or injuring themselves later on in life.

String lessons can be tailored to suit the individual or students can explore the graded courses from ABRSM, Trinity or Suzuki.

PMA is proud to offer saxophone, clarinet and flute lessons - all to a very high standard.

Our team of woodwind tutors enjoy offering the ABRSM examination courses to most students as it offers learners a solid structure with short-term and long-term goals. All PMA woodwind tutors play piano and can accompany students.

Alternative approaches include a more tailored structure, focussing more on styles and the requisite techniques.

The saxophone is a physically demanding instrument of choice. Therefore, we suggest a starting age of 10 or 11. The clarinet can be a great starting point as they both share the key of Bb, have a similar mouthpiece, and the fingerings are similar to those of the upper register of the clarinet.
