I pleasantly enjoyed my experience at Stansted airport. It is considerably smaller to other airports in the UK so therefore has much less seating area and can get quite crowded at times. It has the usual shops and duty free world section just much smaller in size. Nonetheless it was a swift journey and luckily there was no delays and there were good enough options for food there. This is by far the least organized and the least comfortable airport i passed through, and i do travel a lot!! No seats to sit on while waiting for the gate to show up on the screen. ..i mean you can sit on some extremely uncomfortable benches that are kind of made to lean against while waiting several minutes only...Just one band at luggage check open causing long queue, similarly long slow queues at passport control... really...Like you fly from a village in the middle of nowhere! The 1 star is for the friendly staff at the airport. Other wise 0. TLDR: With every step you have to walk around looking for information or ask staff. Airports should be designed to direct flow without such frictions. Greater Anglia (operator of both Stansted Express & the airport) should learn signposting from Incheon, Changi, and Hong Kong airports. Or literally any airport. Details: One of the worst airports I have been to. Elevator from the express railway to departure floor is missing labels, is not sensitive enough when you push the buttons, and all the floors lack big bold floor label. On departure floor, there is significant lack of screens displaying check in information!!! Lack of signposts directing the location of each desks/airlines. Restrooms are smelly. Restroom sign directs one way, you follow and reach male restroom. The female one? Should have made sharp right many steps prior. Gender neutral restroom is tucked away far from sight. Benches are too few & too uncomfortable. I understand this airport is designed to be efficient, not comfortable but perhaps a slight change in bench design could improve visitors’ experience significantly. Gate information is gatekept. Gate for flight is disclosed 47 minutes before the flight (Even though the screen promised 50 minutes). There is no disclaimer that visitors would need to travel via rail to reach gates 1-39. Considering the little time frame allowed, and the lack of guidance through signs - chances of near missing a flight is high among first time visitors. PLEASE FOCUS ON GETTING BETTER SIGNS, positioning them to be actually useful. Bare minimum is not enough, airport designs are to be seamlessly shepherding visitors through. And finally, the Stansted Express. You can get on the express coach from Liverpool or Tottenham Hale station by tapping on with Oyster or contactless card (as per every transport in London). But you shouldn’t. You should have bought coach ticket. So once you get off at the airport there will be staff waiting by the exit to fine you. Emphasis on to fine, because had there been focus on ensuring ticket use among patrons, they would have had electric gates to scan tickets as per every other stations do. But Stansted Express specifically seem to expect people to not know that they shouldn’t have used apps or Oyster, then charge £100. This predatory practice is in stark contrast to every single modes of transportation in London, buses, taxi, underground, trains, other airport expresses (Elizabeth line). Various stakeholders have been calling them out over the years, but they are yet to drop this dysfunctional system & extend the Oyster/contactless card network. More...

Stansted + Ryanair is a perfect combo for a miserable travel experience. Ryanair is forcing you to go through check-in booth to get a ticket (even though there are no visa requirements for the destination) and then you go to the security where it seems they are sending all the bags for additional check. . I haven't seen such a long queue for additional checks, even in the US. On the way back from Spain, Ryanair forced me to go through check-in once again (okay.. the UK has strict visa rules) but then you need to go to yet another queue to... get your papers checked again and get a stamp on a ticket! Unangenehmer Flughafen. Zunächst sehr wenig beschildert. Alles auf english, keine weiteren Sprachen. Das Personal ist nicht fachkundig. Zuerst gemerkt an der Flughafenpolizei, die mehr mit sich selbst beschäftigt sind, als auf die Umgebung zu achten. Passkontrolle ein Desaster. Meine Frau wurde zweimal kontrolliert. Plus minutiös alles auseinander genommen. Sehr langsam gearbeitet. Mehrere Personen involviert. Keine Erklärung keine Freundlichkeit. Service schlichtweg nicht vorhanden. Sicherheit auch nicht gegeben, da ja drei Hilfsangestellte , mehr konnten die nicht sein, mit meiner Frau beschäftigt waren. So bindet man Kapazitäten. Völliger Wahnsinn und Irritation. Das Beste, vorab heißt es auf der Webseite von Raynair, man solle alle Flüssigkeiten seperat verpacken, am Flughafen hier, sollen dann alle in einem Beutel. Das ging vielen so. Sooo slow to get through to your gate :/ You should arrive 3 or at least 2.5h earlier! Security takes a lot of bags to double check and even though they check it, they make you scan the bags AGAIN for some reason. Wwhy would you double check in the first plaif I need to scan it again. TLDR; If you plan to depart from this airport, better be there at least 3 hours prior to your scheduled GATE CLOSING time. Queue for hand baggage starts even before the Boarding Pass electronic gates. Had a departing flight at 18:20 with gate closing at 17:50, entered the airport 16:30 and finished security check at 17:40. 1 HOUR and 10 minutes waiting. The stuff was yelling at passengers with expressions like "I will not lose a flight, be faster" while there was no one helping with collecting the empty baskets or giving baskets to passengers. Arrived at the gate at 17:47 after a Road Runner-Koyot journey till reaching the gate and catched the flight. Compared to a previous experience with how Heathrow handles high traffic in rush hours, Stansted was MUCH MUCH worse. OK, it is a budget airline airport with a lot of passengers, but this was ridiculous. Gatwick is also a budget airline airport but security waiting times were way lower. Aeroporto péssimo! Chegamos 2h30 antes do voo como é recomendado, mas as filas de segurança eram gigantes e nunca na minha vida vi segurança tão lenta que nos fizeram acabar por perder o voo. Neste dia era necessário mais filas de segurança e pessoas a trabalhar, houve imensa pessoas a perder voos e o aeroporto deveria responsabilizar-se. A segurança não têm cuidado a mexer nos pertences pessoais.A pessoa pela qual fui atendida na segurança fez um monte de testes à minha placa de cabelo e não me devolveu. As portas de embarque são muito longe da segurança neste caso a nossa era a última demoramos quase 20 minutos até lá e não houve qualquer aviso prévio nem por parte da companhia que demoraríamos tanto tempo até lá . Pomimo tego,że byłyśmy 3 h wcześniej na lotnisku to prawie nie zdążyłyśmy na swój lot. Tak samo jak mnóstwo innych osób. Ze względu na zbyt mało personelu były olbrzymie kolejki do kontroli bezpieczeństwa. Kolejki były tak duże,że ludzie powoli nie mieścili się w wyznaczonych miejscach do stania w kolejce. Pani która kierowała ruchem skierowała nas do największej kolejki, w której stało ok. 200 os a to była tylko jedna z paru kolejek. Cały czas oczekiwania na kontrolę bezpieczeństwa wynosił ok.1.5 h… porażka. Po przejściu przez bramki mnóstwo bagaży zostało skierowanych do osobistej kontroli bezpieczeństwa przez co kolejne osoby nie zdążyły przed zamknięciem swoich gate.Następnym razem odwiedzając Londyn z pewnością będę unikać tego lotniska. Para quem está preocupado com as avaliações negativas: Não é tão mau como parece. É um aeroporto que fica um pouco longe do centro de Londres. O comboio Stansted Express pode ser usado e é bastante rápido. Nota-se que é um aeroporto com uma afluência de passageiros bastante grande. Vi muitos comentários sobre as longas esperas na zona da segurança e, quando cheguei, assustei-me um pouco com a quantidade de pessoas que estavam na fila, mas, por incrível que pareça, passei pela segurança em 5 minutos. Aeroporto pessimo e lo sconsiglio vivamente. Molto distante da Londra e con personale ai controlli scortese e indelicato, soprattutto quando senza alcuna cura rovistano nelle valigie e nei borsoni. I controlli sono molto lunghi ed esagerati rispetto a qualsiasi altro aeroporto. Ogni persona ha a disposizione una sola piccola bustina per inserire i propri liquidi con anche i trucchi, in un’altra il cellulare ed un’ultima per le chiavi e monete. Lovely people working there, with good mood and really helpful. Nevertheless we had a transit flight and had te pass through security. The security was closed and only opened at 3h in the morning. We had no choice but to lay on the floor with all other travelers with a chill air coming from outside. Passing the security and coming to the gates the situation was not better. Most of the people couldn’t find a place to sit down and rest. All were sitting and lying on the ground miserably. You could tell that most of the people were tired and angry about it. The outcome may have been different if we hadn’t the transit during the night. But few charging spots and expensive food available. Horrible experience at the security check today between 4.50-6pm (yes that’s how long it took us). When we arrived it was already so full you couldn’t almost get into the security area. Then it seemed that they’ve streamlined most people in one massive queue that then ended up at 3 lanes. While one way smaller queue even had 3-4 lanes. Half way through our waiting time they’ve closed 2 out of 3. So we were left with ONE lane for the biggest queue. People getting annoyed, missing flights, couldn’t even get into the area anymore, queuing in the entry hall of the airport. It was an absolute mess and disgrace. People were trying to sneak into fast track which even from the start had way more lanes open than the ‘normal’ track. There seemed to be absolutely no organization or structure. Not acceptable for an airport of that size and importance. Shouldn’t be a surprise that many people travel on a Sunday afternoon. More...
