Q&As

"Success isn't about how much money you make, it's about the difference you make in people's lives" (Michelle Obama). This quote resonates strongly with me and describes succinctly what I love about my job - making a difference to someone that inspires and empowers them to move forward to achieve what is important and valuable to them, whatever that may be. It is also the essence behind the business's strap line: "Helping people thrive by inspiring positive change".

After spending 25 years in the corporate business world in senior commercial and leadership roles, I came to a crossroads in my career that provided me with the opportunity and space to rethink and reconnect with my own values and motivations. It was also a chance to re-assess where I could add value to others and make a difference on a personal level. After a lot of self-reflection, I felt it was the right time to make a career change and use my personal experience and knowledge to focus on my passion for helping others to create their own opportunities and to achieve greater empowerment for themselves. Coaching provides a structured way for people to gain greater clarity and understanding of themselves and of what is important whilst also discovering what holds them back from achieving their desired goals and learning how to refocus themselves. The positive feeling that self-belief and empowerment provides along with the realisation that you can become your own catalyst for change is powerful and a life-changer. These were driving reasons why I became a Certified Coach and set up the coaching services as part of New You. With regards to the Consultancy & Advisory services, creating a productive, engaging and inclusive workplace environment were high on my agenda as a leader. Having worked in high pressured and stressful working environments, I have seen first hand the damage that stress, anxiety and burn-out can cause if not identified, addressed early and managed effectively. Not only is there a negative impact to the staff involved, but also a considerable cost to business through reduced productivity, higher levels of staff absence & turnover, and low levels of staff motivation & engagement. I have also seen the positive difference that an early intervention employee wellbeing strategy can make when it is included as a key part of an overall company strategy with the right awareness and engagement at all levels to support it. Helping people to thrive in the workplace whilst gaining a healthy work/life balance were important reasons as to why I set up the consultancy & advisory services as part of New You.

An important part of being a Coach is to have the best interests of the client at the heart and therefore ensuring that you are a good fit is important for the best results to be achieved. Therefore having an initial conversation to understand more about each other is a crucial part of the process. Clients will find that I am dedicated and completely focused on helping them to achieve what they want to achieve - whether it be a small or large goal.

Recent formal studies & surveys indicate that 1 in 6 workers experience common mental health issues at any one time like stress, anxiety & depression, described collectively as "distress". With an increase in employees working when they are unwell, taking time off sick for distress reasons, or who are unable to disconnect from work during time off, it is not surprising that levels of "burn out" are growing.

Not only does this cause a negative impact to the wellbeing of individuals, but there is also a damaging cost to business in terms of loss of productivity/reduced staff performance, low staff retention & engagement, & expensive recruitment and training to replace those who leave.

Early intervention is recognised to help minimise the impact of mental health distress in the workplace and we can help by working with you to establish an effective program by:

Conducting research on your current approach to staff wellbeing.
Assessing the impact of common mental health issues on the business.
Undertaking confidential employee feedback.
Creating a SWOT analysis & making recommendations
Supporting to develop & implement a proactive strategy towards staff wellbeing.

Menopause symptoms can affect around 70% of women and whilst many people will recognise well-known physical symptoms, it is often the psychological symptoms that women struggle with more eg low self esteem, anxiety, reduced motivation, brain fog and low energy. These feelings can at times be debilitating and lead to an impact on work performance. Many women are not prepared for the onset of the menopause, and feel even less equipped to manage their symptoms in the workplace. Many choose not to disclose their situation to their managers for fear of embarrassment, discrimination or lack of understanding. It is therefore not surprising that few companies have established menopause programs in place or offer supportive information and practices to help what is a sizeable part of the workforce. We can help you to take a more proactive approach to support menopause awareness and help women continue to thrive at work.
