Really pleased with My Own Tutor. My grandson is enjoying his online English tutoring. His grammar is coming along very nicely and any questions are answered in a way he understands.

What do you love most about your job?
Knowing that children are enjoying the tuition and home study program and benefiting from it. It also takes the pressure off the parents.
What inspired you to start your own business?
My career over the years has been in accounts but I had always wanted to be involved in education after raising my own two children in the school system. Running a tuition service was the answer. I love to think that I can help children with their education, particularly at the moment during the pandemic when I know many parents are struggling with home schooling. I have seen the disappointment in young people when they haven't been able to take exams, and although we can't change that I believe we can give them the support they need to reach their potential.

Currently we are only operating remotely/online. In the future I hope to be able to run physical tuition centres.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
I only opened the Darlington branch of My Own Tutor in September 2020, so I haven't had to make any changes from physical tuition centres to online. It has all been online from the start.
Tuition, virtual online & online home study program
Tuition for maths and English for years 1 to 11. We follow the National Curriculum. Our online study program is accessible 24/7 with exercises and lessons in Maths and English. Exercises also are available in most other subjects up to GCSE. Weekly tasks are set to the level of the student, and exercises are interspersed with online games to keep the student interested and engaged. Exercises are marked online immediately.
Virtual tuition sessions are run by full qualified tutors in individual Zoom breakout rooms, with a maximum of 6 students in the class.
Weekly reports are emailed to parents and tutors so progress can be viewed and help can be given in the appropriate areas.
We offer a free taster tuition session so parents and students can see how it works.
The national company has been running 11 years and we have many satisfied customers who have really benefited from our support. My branch (Darlington) has been running since September 2020.
We also offer an advice service for parents who are struggling with home schooling during the current pandemic.
