In the age of the DSLR, anyone can buy a camera and call themselves a photographer. Standardised studio shooting environments, bland lighting set ups and generic rented backdrops all have a detrimental effect on the end product, because the image is shaped by the person behind the camera and their relationship to the person in front of it, not by the technology alone. Michael Rolt has sharpened his perspective through years of film work, fashion and music photography, and is now offering images with personality to private clients.

Be it shooting in a music studio or someone’s home, Michael Rolt Photography likes to ensure that the subject is in their natural environment, or scouting for a suitable nearby location that creates a fun, relaxed shoot.

Shooting in variable conditions in unknown locations often requires natural light instead of portable studio light-boxes. This requires an excellent knowledge of how light actually works- expertise Michael earned through his background in film and his formal training.
