Amazing! Melissa has been such a great support to me over the last 6 months. During my time with Melissa, I broke my foot from a netball game. She was able to adjust all our training session to fit in with my injury and increase my strength and fitness despite the fact I was wearing a restrictive boot. Melissa has also managed to fix my back! I have always suffered from a painful lower back. Melissa found the main cause of my issue, massaged areas which needed it, and then strengthened me up so I now have no lower back pain. More...

Q&As

I love being able to help people who are suffering with injuries or fatigued muscles. Some people just want a relaxing deep tissue massage. I love the feedback I received that they feel so much more relaxed, free of headaches and much improved sleep.

As well as offering sports massages, I am also a personal trainer. The two things go hand in hand - when a client can't exercise for whatever reason, rather than lose their session they can opt for a massage.

I used to work in London in marketing for Sainsbury's. I enjoyed it for a long time but I wanted to move away from London and do something more fulfilling. I left Sainsbury's in 2013 and took the leap to set up Melissa Joy Training and Sports Massage and I told myself I could always go back to freelance marketing if things didn't work out. So far, 10 years later, I am still going with an established client base, loving what I do and I haven't needed to return to an office.

I have a great understanding of anatomy and will often discover that the site of pain in a client is not necessary the source of pain. Once the source is treated, recovery is a lot quicker.

I am always looking to improve my skills and I am constantly going on training courses.

I am very professional and friendly and I will make you feel at ease right from the start. Some people are talkers and love to chat whilst they're being massaged. Other people like to have their treatment in silence. I am completely guided by you on this, it's whatever you prefer.

I cannot offer sports massage online but I can offer personal training and/or stretching and mobility online if you would like this to further improve your recovery.

I have undergone a course at St Mary's University which has given me an award in Infection Prevention (Covid 19) for Complementary Therapies and Sports Massage.

My massage is cleaned with anti viral cleaner and my hands are washed before and after every massage. Once cleaned at the start of the massage, they do not touch my face.

When providing mobile massages I ask my clients to provide their own towels, pillows and blankets. This helps them to feel more reassured and comfortable on what they are lying on.

Services

I am a qualified sports massage therapist and can help you recover from injury. Contrary to common perception, sports massage does not have to be very painful. My aim is to listen to you and take your guidance as to how much pressure to apply.

If you just want an all over massage that is less specific and leaves you feeling reinvigorated and relaxed, I can offer you a deep tissue massage.

My massages are carried out using almond oil. This is not scented but is a lovely oil that doesn't block the pores. If you are allergic to nuts, alternatives are offered.

Please note, and I'm sorry to have state it but I have been asked on several occasions, but I do NOT offer 'extras'.
