Complementary Psychotherapy
The Mark Newey Method ® is based on 5 fundamental principles that completely differentiate it from mainstream therapy and on 5 two-hour sessions. It is extremely rare that somebody needs more time than this. That means we can be very confident, but can’t actually guarantee, that you’ll be well on your way to beating your stress, anxiety or depression in as little as 6 weeks.
The Five Principles
I. Nurturing
We provide a very safe space for you to explore, understand and unpack your faulty programming.
The rapport that we build with you is essential: this is why the selection process for Mark Newey therapists is so strict. All of them have had their own severe brushes with mental health problems and come out the other side with the necessary learning. They’ve all been where you are…or worse. We share with you our own experiences so that you can learn from them and see how stress, anxiety and depression are beatable.
This is in marked contrast to mainstream therapy practise. The counselling model is to “hold up a mirror” in front of the client to help them “reflect” on their issues. When I was struggling I was seeing a counsellor for 18 months; was that working by the way? 18 months? I only found out 3 things about her in that time: she was German, she lived somewhere in Hertfordshire (one day she was very late because the A10 was closed), and at some point in her live she drove a 2CV. Even though she was a charming, intelligent and attractive lady, where was the rapport?
II. Teaching
It is essential that you have at least a basic understanding of how your mind works, how you’re creating the reality you don’t want, what you need to change to fix that, of what your life’s purpose is (we all have one) and how you’re going to reach it.
We take you through 2 models which show you how your unconscious works. This means that as you go back into life, you can see what you’re doing and consciously change it. It also means, that once you’ve healed the limiting beliefs and programmes that are holding you back, in the 1-2-1 sessions with your Mark Newey therapist, you will spot any future problems and deal with them before they become a problem, which means that you never have to have debilitating stress, anxiety or depression again.

III. Healing
All of us have got “stuff” from our past that’s holding us back: whether it’s being bullied at school, had your heart broken at 16 and your parents got divorced (those are the things that I took forward with me and which affected how I created my reality for years after). Some of my clients are dealing with much bigger issues of course, like being abused as a child or raped: but all of these experiences fundamentally distort how we create our reality on an on-going basis.
We help you let go of your past and all of the faulty programming it brought with it. The cleaning of this filter of reality creation goes a long way to beating stress, anxiety and depression.
IV. Inspiring
It is you that will make the changes, not your therapist; our job is to act as guide, facilitator and inspirer. We KNOW that you are capable of making the necessary changes, but we need to inspire you and fire you up to believe in yourself so that you can make them. We’ve been where you are, so we know what’s possible!
V. Empowering
Since it’s you that makes the changes, they can be permanent; if it was us “sprinkling our magic dust”, then they probably wouldn’t be. It’s therefore up to us to make sure that you know what those changes are and how to make them. We also ensure that you have the internal resources to make them, whether that’s courage, patience, motivation or good old self esteem!
Sorry but the evidence of my own experience and that of my clients would suggest that you don’t get any of that from counselling or CBT.
The 5 Session Mark Newey Method Programme
Session 1
Session 1 is delivered by video on the internet; this enables us to keep the costs of the 1-2-1 therapy down; it also means you’ve got permanent access to it. As already mentioned, the first video lasts about half an hour, is free and can be signed up for at the end of this video sequence. Access to the second video, which is about 1.5 hours will be given to you, once you’ve signed up for the programme.
Session 1 is about self awareness: since 91% of how we create our reality on a moment-by-moment basis is unconscious and virtually nobody has the faintest idea of how their Unconscious works, then virtually nobody has true self awareness. We need to understand (or at least have a grasp of) the programmes our Unconscious is playing.
As you run through the models a few “light-bulbs” will start going off and you will start making connections and therefore get understanding that you haven’t had before. Don’t panic it’s not deep Freudian psychology: we teach it in schools! When we learn anything, our brain has to, to some degree, “rewire” itself to take on board the new knowledge; but the key is that our sense of self is right at the core of the “wiring”, so when we learn about ourselves, to some degree, all of the rest of the wiring has to change.
Occasionally prospective clients express disappointment that they won’t be making changes after the first session because there’s no ‘therapy”. Actually nothing could be further from the truth: we have found that making big changes without a conscious understanding of how we are creating the reality we don’t want, is much more limited. Moreover, when we understand how the Unconscious works and how and why it is giving us the stress, anxiety or depression we don’t want, we can see how we’re going to make the necessary changes; and of course that knowledge stays with us, so we spot future problems as they loom over the horizon and deal with them…often not even realising how important those changes were.
As we go through the first session we will be outlining the “homework” you need to do before the second session, which really helps you put your own personal flesh on the models, which very much deepens your self awareness.
Session 2
Session 2 is then coaching you through the homework; this means exploring your values: what’s important to you in your life. Nobody knows consciously what their deeply held values are because we’ve never sat and worked them out before. This is important because if you are not honouring your values, then you can’t expect to be happy…but if you don’t know what they are…that’s hard! This simple exercise has changed peoples’ lives on its own.
We then explore key times, episodes, experiences in your past, positive and negative, which may have had an impact on your thinking and behavioural patterns; rest assured we don’t need details…you don’t have to relive past experiences. This is important because one of the filters with which we create our reality on a moment-by-moment basis is the things that have happened to us in the past.
We then look at the pressure we feel from society, in particular the media, to behave and think in a certain way. When we’re honest with ourselves, we are surprised what a huge influence on us the expectations of others have.
Finally we look at the limiting beliefs that are holding us back in our lives. These are things we believe to be true, but they’re not. Changing these sorts of beliefs can have a massive effect in freeing us to live our life in a better way.
Session 3
Session 3 is what we elegantly call “dumping stuff from the past”! We’ve all got stuff: whether it’s being bullied at school, having our heart broken as a teenager, our parents getting divorced. These events cause us genuine pain and although we don’t realise it, that pain stays with us (in the Unconscious) for years…in fact, until we’ve dealt with whatever the pain is, it can dramatically affect how we create our reality on an on-going basis.
Fortunately most of our clients don’t have “big stuff” to let go of, but it’s not difficult to imagine the effect of being abused as a child, on how we would continue to create our reality as an adult. When dealt with properly through hypnosis, even big stuff like this can be healed, making a huge difference in how a client lives their life going forwards. The great thing about the Mark Newey Method ® is that the client will have already consciously understood how these events are influencing their reality creation; this makes it much easier for the Unconscious to let it go.
Session 4
In Sessions 4 and 5 we turn our attention to the future: it’s not enough just to heal the hurts from the past. So Session 4 is a coaching session to find out what you really want out of life…and we’re not talking about the house, the car and the TV! Most people have never had the opportunity to sit and seriously explore what they want out of life. Normally it’s something really simple, but one of the reasons many clients visit us is precisely because they’re not getting what they want out of life. For most of us it’s about finding what a more purposeful life means to us. Whilst you’re not likely to get a detailed plan for the rest of your life out of one coaching session, you should get a real sense of direction and know what and where to look for what you want.
Session 5
Finally Session 5 is another hypnosis session to do two things: set your Unconscious up to look for what you want and ensure you have the where-with-all to go and get it (patience, motivation, self esteem, courage etc). There’s a part of your Unconscious called the Reticular Activating System (R.A.S.) which is supposed to look for what you want; unfortunately for most of us, because we don’t know what we want, it ends up showing us what we don’t want (what makes us stressed, anxious and depressed) in order to get us to avoid them…the problem is that it’s showed them to us, giving us the consequent pain!
As a result of the programme, there are 2 pieces of very common feedback 6-12 months on:
• “Oh you know that big change I said I was going to make? I just realised I made it last week!” What this shows you is that it’s not about harnessing your will power and forcing the world to fall into line with what you want. It’s about setting a destination and letting your Unconscious guide you to it, with frequent conscious check-ins!
• People tend to bring a big, over-arching issue with them: stress, anxiety, depression, lack of confidence. But because we’re working at depth, people get all sorts of other benefits they weren’t expecting…and we love that!!!
