Vanessa Oldam
“I recently engaged John to undertake a damp survey on a prospective house purchase. John was extremely prompt at answering my emails and undertaking the survey.
The report was ready on the evening of the survey. The report was very clear and easy to understand and John was happy to discuss and explain further over the phone.
He actually answered a number of questions which the previous structural surveyor had not answered fully and gave me a much clearer picture of the property as a whole. He is easy to talk to and genuinely sincere.
Some further investigation was required and again John was prompt at attending and providing a further report. All his charges were transparent and I felt were very reasonable.
I would have no hesitation in using him again or recommending his services to others.”

What do you love most about your job?
I am a service provider and nothing gives me greater job satisfaction than helping people resolve issues with their property which may have been plaguing them for years and which others have failed to accurately diagnose.
In a pre-purchase scenario I am often the middle man between a Vendor and prospective purchaser whereby, as I have no vested interest in gaining contract works, my diagnosis and proposed solution/s can be trusted to be appropriate.
My qualifications were gained by taking the time to sit industry recognised examinations in order to help set me apart from the vast majority of individuals purporting to be 'specialist' surveyors / treatment companies.
What inspired you to start your own business?
Having worked in this industry, as a contractor, for some 30 years it was apparent to me that I was often being compared with un-qualified competitors who did not have the same approach as mine and had a 'quote at all costs' approach irrespective of whether there was a genuine problem to resolve. I also became aware that, unlike my services which are underwritten by Professional Indemnity insurance, many remedial treatment service contractors do not offer a legally binding survey / report.
My job is a vocation and I took the steps to work for myself in 2015 when I recognised, with the advent of a means of generating online enquiries, that I would be able to generate sufficient clients to maintain a reasonable work / life balance.
Why should our clients choose you?
I undertake just one inspection per day and this enables me to spend as much time as is necessary to conduct an in-depth inspection of whatever the task is in hand. Ordinarily this means being able to provide a written report of my findings on the same day as the inspection.
This means that, if you are looking for an independent, subjective, assessment of a particular issue with dampness, or a 'damp and timber' inspection, prior to purchase, you can trust that, by engaging my services you will be employing a professional, experienced, qualified Surveyor who can be trusted to provide you with such.
