Tutoring
Very patience and professional.
What do you love most about your job?
I love maths and I love teaching so this is the perfect profession for me. My favourite aspect of the role is getting to know each student as an individual, working out what they need from me in order to progress, and seeing their confidence and knowledge grow as tuition continues. The increase in self-esteem from tackling topics students previously struggled with is transformative and a privilege to be involved in.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I started Jackdaw Education in order to be able to work more holistically with students in a way that there simply isn't time to achieve working in traditional educational settings. I appreciate having the freedom to adapt my teaching style to each student and the time to reflect on my teaching practice and hone my craft as a result.
Why should our clients choose you?
All of our tutors are warm and supportive, and committed to providing a tailored approach to each student's academic development. We are a small company and therefore able to share ideas and approaches with one another, and we are all passionate about what we do. We know that good tutoring can be transformative to students and that confidence really underpins attainment.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
We offer remote tuition through a platform of the student's choosing, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Skype. Tutors will email resources to students or their parent/carer in advance of the session so that it can be printed out (if possible) and written on during the session, and resources are also up on the shared screen to be worked on collaboratively.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
We are aware of the anxiety that the pandemic has caused many people, and aim to be understanding of -- and responsive to -- that, putting into place any adaptations our students require in order to feel comfortable. For face-to-face sessions we can wear masks if required, and use hand sanitiser regularly. Tutors conducting face-to-face sessions contact clients immediately if they have tested positive for COVID-19, and also if they have come into contact with a positive case so that clients can decide whether they wish to pause tuition for a period.
Maths tuition
We offer online and face-to-face 1:1 tuition in maths covering Key Stages 1 and 2 (primary, including SATs and 11+), Key Stages 3 and 4 (GCSE/iGCSE) and Key Stage 5 (Core Maths/A Level). We also work with those pursuing Functional Skills qualifications, adult learners, and to prepare students for Common Entrance Exams.
The majority of our tuition is delivered online and we work with students around the UK and across the world. Online tuition can take place on a platform of the students' choosing depending on what they are familiar and comfortable with, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams and Skype. 1:1 tuition at for GCSE support is available in Birmingham and the surrounding areas.
Our tutors are warm, friendly, supportive and knowledgeable, with an in-depth understanding of the curriculum and the requirements to achieve particular examination grades.
We focus on our students as individuals, taking into account their learning styles and preferences and ensuring we offer the correct balance of support and challenge to optimise their academic development.
Mock exam marking (maths)
We provide a mock examination marking service for maths GCSE and A Level. Students sit a set of past exam papers at home in exam conditions which an experienced examiner then marks and writes a detailed report on. This includes areas of strength and for development, providing a focused framework for further revision. This is offered as a stand-alone service, or we can offer tuition support to help address those areas for development identified in the report if required.
