Great Bookham
Welcome! My name is Imogen and I run Velaris Counselling, an online therapy service, and also see clients in-person at The Eaves in Guildford. My belief is that therapy shouldn't be stressful or intimidating, so I work to make my clients feel as secure as possible in our sessions.

What do you love most about your job?
No day is the same as a therapist because no two people are the same, which leads to so many unique encounters in the therapy room. It is amazing to witness my clients have epiphanies in sessions, finally realising something important and gaining a flash of insight. When it comes to what I love most about my job, the answer is everything, as clichéd as that sounds. I love my work and I am incredibly passionate about helping others. It is a privilege to be part of people's journeys as they move through their lives.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I have been passionate about working 1 on 1 with people to help them meet their goals since I was a teenager, volunteering as an education mentor. I realised that every job I'd ever had involved therapy in some way, so I knew I needed to formally study therapy and gain a professional qualification. After two inspiring years, I became a Registered Member of BACP. Working for agencies allowed me to learn best practice from experienced therapists, however I always wanted to start my own business so I could connect with clients directly.
Why should our clients choose you?
One thing that makes me stand out from the crowd is my commitment to client safety. This doesn't just mean the safety of data protection or secure video links, though I take that very seriously, but emotional safety. I encourage my clients to go through therapy at their own pace. I don't believe in 'pushing' people to discuss traumas unless they feel comfortable enough to do so, and I understand that sometimes trust is built over many sessions. I also prioritise the emotional wellbeing of my clients, which involves honouring the length of sessions and providing safe endings.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I provide video therapy which can be accessed from anywhere in the United Kingdom, provided clients have a strong WiFi connection and a private space to meet from.
Person-Centred Counselling
Counselling suits clients who are seeking short-term, focused support dealing with specific issues or life challenges. Topics include stress, self-esteem, relationship issues and bereavement, but there are no limits on what can be discussed. Counselling is booked in blocks of six sessions.
Person-Centred Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy suits clients who are seeking long-term, in-depth therapy that explores underlying issues and behavioural patterns. Longstanding psychological issues such as chronic anxiety or complex trauma may be particularly suited to this approach. Sessions last upwards of six months.
Single-Session Therapy
SST is a model of therapy developed by Windy Dryden. It refers to highly directive therapy that focuses on a very specific topic, with long-term help available if required. I deliver SST with a counselling agency that focuses on 'therapy at the point of need'. SST lasts between 1-3 sessions.
