Piano Lessons

Harrison has been outstanding since I started working with him late last year. Not only is he an outstanding pianist but he also has a superb understanding of teaching and learning. We live in different parts of the world but the online lessons have worked great. More...

We had tried in the past at a local piano school, but it didn’t go very well; after a couple of lessons, my son wasn’t interested in going anymore.
What a difference Harrison made. Our son simply cannot wait to go to his lessons every week. Harrison did a wonderful job at making sessions interesting for him. Harrison is creative, passionate about music and genuinely dedicated.

Harrison is the definition of professional and he is one of the most engaging people I have ever met! My son (6 years old) started piano this year and he is excited to see Harrison every week. Harrison manages to find something to get him excited every week and knows just what to say to get him re-engage when interest is lacking. He is teaching Jackson not only the practical side of music but also creating music through composition and getting his creative juices going while doing it around other topics he likes (Harry Potter, minecraft etc). He is truly a one of kind teacher that we are so grateful to have found! More...

Great prospect for piano lessons!

Myla absolutely loves and lives for her Friday afternoon piano lessons as it’s the first time her teacher, who is joyful, knowledgeable, interesting, & funny; teaches according to her interests and needs and not a one size fits all model. Harrison definitely keeps her motivated and interested!

Harrison keeps her interested in between classes too by sending her links to material she wants to practice, tools with which to do just that and a sincere and genuine interest in her musical development. She’s learnt more in a few weeks than in the last two years!

Let me start by saying that one is never too old to learn or relearn the piano.
During the dreary days of Covid lockdown, Harrison answered my request to rekindle my love of this instrument. My decades old basic Grade 5 Royal Conservatory ability had Harrison digging deep for ideas. I was impressed at his simple presentation of a wide and inviting array of instruction. With every weekly lesson, he found new ways to spark my interest, increase my love of playing, build my skills and inspire me to go further. From a review of sight reading, simple scale techniques and music theory, to allowing me to choose the pieces I wanted to learn, Harrison creatively built our one hour Zoom sessions into an experience that I looked forward to every week. He encouraged my strong ear for music, helping me understand that it too, is critically important in playing. His diverse knowledge and unique instructional talents in teaching piano have nudged me back to enjoying practising and playing. With these solid learning sessions, I have a bevy of tunes under my belt, including a new grasp of jazz piano - something I've always wanted to try! My confidence in my ability to read music has strengthened and I am inspired to learn more pieces on my own, to compose a little and to play more often.
Harrison is a gifted instructor with a masterful piano background. No matter what your age or ability, your piano learning is guaranteed to be a positive, diverse, enjoyable journey with Harrison as your instructor.

As a teacher myself, I am really picky when it comes to choosing my son's instructor and I was thrilled when Harrison said he was available to tutor my son.

Harrison is a joyful, patient and responsible teacher who has in depth knowledge and ample experience in music. What more can you ask?

I believe having a high level degree in music does not mean he or she can teach others. However, I was amazed how my 5 year old son was exposed to a variety of music elements. My son was able to play and touch his grand piano like our electric piano at home. I found some other alternatives we had explored in the past were very strict and very teacher oriented but Harrison made the environment pleasant and exciting. My son was encouraged to recognize different rhythms, sound and melody and looked forward to class every week.

I strongly recommend Harrison, he is head and shoulders above the rest.

As a previously performing artist, with training from the Mannes College of Music in 1999, I was introduced to Harrison in 2019 after receiving keyboard technique and performance suggestions from previous Art School students at Bard College in New York. On many occasions Harrison has given me technical instructions and broader musical concepts that continue to sharpen and improve my musicianship. I admire Harrison's open and welcoming outlook and his critiques and comments are circumspect and far-reaching. His familiarity with the repertoire, his musical training and experience, and his desire for truer musical and artistic interpretation creates a wonderfully productive 'meeting of the minds' every time we meet, for which I am very grateful. Harrison is insightful and his precise comments add depth and also a higher realization for artistic potential, both physically and mentally, which ultimately creates a richer musical experience when it comes to performance. It is a joy and privilege to work artistically with Harrison. I hope to continue journeying through the classical repertoire in this manner, it has been such a glorious and fruitful pursuit. More...

I've never met anyone with a more contagious passion for music than Harrison. What I've learned from him has quickly made music seem like more of a first language than a foreign one. An incredibly skilled teacher that clearly finds joy in bringing out the best in his students. More...

Great Teacher! Considers various ways of learning and reflects enthusiasm for the instrument and the achievements of the student. Highly motivating Instructor!

Q&As

I often feel like I’m not teaching music; I’m imparting values that someone can draw from for the rest of their life. After all, it’s in the discipline of sitting down at the workbench every day, through thick and thin, that one finds real freedom. Nothing is more meaningful than watching a student discover this.

I developed my love for teaching by studying under some great artists. They’ve been named to the Order of Canada (André Laplante), won a Pulitzer prize (Elizabeth Frank), won multiple Grammys (Joan Tower) and performed for the President of the United States (Amy Yang). Their joy for the art of teaching left a profound impression on me.
