I was quite desperate to get a tuition for my son’s English GCSE exam. It is plenty on the market but when you explore nothing is quite right. I booked First class learning in Barnet centre purely by chance- I get them on the phone and liked how our conversation went. It was our lucky strike! During our two term tuition they observed my son’s personal needs very close, he raised his confidence and mock grade in English! We end up booking science tuition with them too. And in very short time my boy gotten 8 in his mock in chemistry, before rated 6! The only regret that I didn’t find them sooner! Highly recommend! Both my children studied English and Maths at FCL Barnet. My daughter started when she was struggling with Maths at Primary School. From being bottom of the class, she achieved grade 9 at GCSE and went on to achieve an A at A Level. She is now a maths tutor herself. After attending FCL Barnet, my son got through the entrance for Haberdashers and went on to achieve a grade 9 in English and Maths at GCSE. He couldn't have done it without the excellent tutoring he experienced at FCL Barnet. They also helped my son through all the lockdowns, making sure there were no gaps in his study, even through those difficult times. FCL Barnet is a friendly and welcoming centre, they're always happy to talk about difficulties your child might be having and support them until they are proficient in the subjects they're studying. The teacher to student ratio is high and the classes are based on solid pedagogical principles (teaching and learning principles) and have a progressive structure (the difficulty increases gradually). This means that you child makes steady strong improvement by observing the instructions given, a little tailored homework everyday between the classes. We’ve noticed a demonstrable improvement in our daughter’s English and maths skills. The accumulated hours of advantage is already showing and will only grow over time when compared to children of a similar age. What do you love most about your job?
There is a great feeling of reward and satisfaction as a student develops confidence and self esteem in maths and English. I love it when students tell me that 'Mistakes are learning opportunities...', I know they have started to gain valuable study skills which will help them be successful and independent learners.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I joined First Class Learning because I was in charge and I could bring my passion for learning to the local community. I like being able to work from home and developing my centre based on the learners who attend my classes. I enjoy meeting the parents and learners from a range of backgrounds and communities with the flexibility to design maths and English programmes that develop each learner's core lifelong skills.
Why should our clients choose you?
I am passionately curious about how to bring out the best in each learner and FCL tuition programmes are based on the key principles of every child matters. Each programme of study and its learning outcomes are transparent and focussed. Answer Books are provided so parents and children with the tutor can measure the progress and identify the gaps in learning and next steps. This makes the tuition provided holistic as the child's weekly schedule of home, school and tuition can be taken into account and adapted when needed.
Tutor
I specialise in designing and developing short courses in reading and writing for individuals and groups in the following areas: 11+ for independent and grammar schools, ESOL learners who are working towards the skills for life tests E3 to L2, GCSE English and academic study for University. I can also tutor on a one to one basis for maths up to GCSE. Ongoing tuition can be arranged if that is more suitable for the learner.
