Great Club, run by a great Sensi Alistair Thomson my son has been with this group now for 10 months and in that time he has grown in confidence and his attention span has dramatically increased which has also been noticed at school, not only that but on Saturday he attained he Junior Yellow belt :) would recommend EWRK Martial Arts Club to any parent that is looking for a non aggressive based teaching of the art form.

I started training with the club a few months ago; moving from one style to another. I was made welcome and was able to interpret my knowledge of shotokan karate into wado-ryu with the guidance from Alistair! Even when I was absent for weeks on end due to work, I was always made welcome to continue training when I was available! Highly recommend to all, great with students of all ages and abilities along with the expertise in karate! More...

I had 3 lessons with Alistair. And really enjoyed them. I was learning a lot in that short time and was improving. I decided not to carry on due to starting studying full time. But if I wasn't studying I would definitely have carried on. He is a good instructor. More...

I have been training in martial arts for 18 years and 11 of those have been with Alistair as my Sensei. Having trained in a variety of clubs, I find Essex Wado Ryu Karate to be a fantastic club with traditional values and training methods. Sometimes as a woman it can be intimidating entering a new dojo so I was pleasantly suprised to find this club to be warm and welcoming from my first lesson. It is a family friendly club, my son started a year ago and loves it and my daughter is keen to start next year when she is old enough. If you would like to try karate for the first time or if you are looking to return to martial arts, I would say come and give it a try. Whatever your age or ability I will guarantee the buzz that you will get after your first lesson will leave you wanting more. :) More...

I have been doing karate with Sensei Alistair for many years now and I can still remember the day I joined.10 years old, lack of self esteem and shy. I wanted this to change. Sensei Alistair encouraged me to stand in front of the class and demonstrate techniques. Although at the time it was something I always disliked and feared doing, in the long run it has helped me be the best I can be. The praise at every achievement helped me believe in myself and I started to want to go up and show people what I could do. After being pushed to my strengths I no longer needed the persistent encouragement of others guiding me, not just by Sensei Alistair but from higher grades in the club, I found if I was unsure I could ask, if I needed help I could ask, if I wanted to practise something in particular I could ask and my self esteem grew and grew. I hadn't started to notice how much karate had taught me till now, not just how to defend myself but taught me things I didn't know about myself. strengths, weaknesses and the power to get my voice heard. To this present day I have become a senior student in my school helping the years below me, I would never have been able to stand up in front of over a 1000 people if it wasn't for EWRK Karate Club. Fantastic Dojo. Sensei Alistair Thomson is a very professional trainer for a beginner like myself, very physical training both in exercise and moves, I am so glad that there is no soft touch to his teachings, as i am only small some people tend to treat me with kid gloves, fortunately the sensei doesn't which is more like a lifelike experience.
