Q&As

You can tell if your garage is suitable, based on a number os key pointers such as whether it is a part of the house or if it is detached, what the construction of the garage is, whether it has foundations and a floor slab, what the construction of the roof is, whether there are other factors such as if the house(and/or garage) is a listed building, or in a conservation area, etc.
The purpose of the conversion is also important - ie what is the proposed use? All in all many factors will come into play when making the decision and current planning law and local council/planning authority preferences/imperatives, which may vary from council to council.

1. Appraisal - assessing the suitability of the garage for the intended use(s)- will the size/orientation and relative position suit the proposed use.
2. Check with the local planning authority on the situation in the neighbourhood on such conversions.
3. Prepare plans showing the converted garage as the proposed function (such as Play Room/Home Cinema/Bathroom/Kitchen/Bedroom, etc)
4. Make planning application (where required)
5. Prepare Building Regulations drawing and make submission for approval.
6. Attend site or be available via email/skype/telephone to respond to queries from builder during conversion.

1. Headroom versus floor space relationship.
2. Similar conversions/precedents in the neighbourhood.
3. Stair access possibilities
4. Emergency escape route and fire protection measures.
5. Alternative arrangements for current loft facilities (such as header tanks for water)
6. Any extant rights of access (say from adjacent properties as a means of escape)

I love the prospect of a fresh new challenge with individual needs, for each new client. Everyone has their own take on what the business needs and how they would like to meet the needs of their customers. I like the process of creating the best environment possible to achieve my client's dreams.

I have a lot of creative ideas and designs to offer my clients and that motivates and drives me forward.

Because I listen first, to what the customer wants to achieve and then in a collaborative way, work out the best way to achieve the customer's objectives. A customer will gain from us the experience of many others who have been through the process before, and were in a similar situation.
