How important is a healthy diet to someone’s health and wellbeing?
What I believe is probably less important than how the client feels. My role is to help someone find the right balance for them; of course I believe that eating healthily is important to our bodies; food is the building blocks of our physiology, but food, and eating, is complicated and I like to help people navigate what can be a very complex issue.
What do you love most about your job?
I have always been passionate about the importance of nutrition, and, I have always enjoyed engaging with people, either 1:1 or in group settings. Very little gives me more pleasure than when, at the end of a session, a client tells me they now understand things better, are motivated to make changes and feel supported by the service I offer.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I love the flexibility of fitting my work around other commitments. I have sometimes found that employers are more interested in the time you are at your desk, than the quality of work produced - I think that's called presentee-ism. Ironically, I work harder now I am self employed than I ever did as an employee, although I have always been diligent and respectful.
Why should our clients choose you?
I am very clear about which clients I can support, and who should be supported by other colleagues. If I feel I am unable to provide the expertise required, I will do my best to provide a referral. I am very excited about the app I use for clients to input their food intake (only if they wish to). It gives THEM some real insight about the nutritional composition of their diet, and even identifies some of the triggers which can result in unhelpful choices.
Can you provide your services online or remotely? If so, please add details.
I provide my services almost exclusively online/remotely these days. People seem to be more at ease in their own environments, and the convenience of online consultations makes my service far more accessible.
What changes have you made to keep your customers safe from Covid-19?
I no longer consult face to face, therefore, in the safety and security of their own homes, their safety is controlled by them.
Weight management
Using a mixture of food diary analysis, motivational interviewing and simply getting to know my clients I am able to understand the challenges they are facing and suggest opportunities to overcome them, and achieve their goals
Pre-conception nutrition
I am able to explain to clients the most important nutrients in the pre-conception period and guide them through information on nutrition throughout their pregnancy
Infant and Early Years Nutrition
I specialise in overweight and obesity prevention and often those early years are most crucial. We can discuss introducing solid foods, tackling faddy eating, portion sizes and all the aspects crucial for children to develop healthy eating patterns which will be essential for their health as they grow into adulthood.
Group activities
I am an experienced group facilitator and can lead small groups who are interested in different aspects of nutrition.
