Came all the way from Australia to visit CrossFit Scarborough. Other than a few wise-cracks at the expense of my accent - Pete and the team were great. This place has totally changed my life over the last 9 months. I'd never been to a conventional gym before so felt totally out of depth, but with everyone's encouragement it wasn't long before I was seeing results.
Pete is a great coach and helps you realise you can achieve more than you ever thought you could. I would totally recommend this to anyone trying to improve their fitness levels.
Beware, you will get hooked!

Starting Crossfit Scarborough two and a half years ago was one of the best things I did. I was a three times a week spinner and lifted occasional weights for years. But the functional aspect of crossfit soon made me realise that I wasn't that fit and I wasn't that functional! My mobility has improved ten fold along with my strength and functionality. One of the greatest aspects of Crossfit Scarborough is the community .. the other people you meet and work out with. From all walks of life, all ages and different levels of fitness. You are welcomed like no other gym I have been to. And I have made life long friends. We encourage and support each other's progress. The sessions are mentally and physically challenging and therefore you see results both physically and in levels of fitness. Pete Davey, the coach, is a lovely guy. His depth of knowledge and understanding of all the technical movements are passed on to us on a daily basis..all to help us achieve. I leave each session a better person both in mind and body. CrossFit Scarborough is fantastic, its not a "normal type gym" you don't go in and have to wait to use equipment or try figure out what a piece of equipment does or what you should even do today. You walk in with the work outs set for you and as each session is done in groups there is always a coach on hand to guide you through every step.
The work outs are always tailored so everyone and anyone is able to do them, with constantly varied, high-intensity functional movements, CrossFit Scarborough coaches people of all shapes, sizes and ages to improve their physical well-being as well as overall fitness, and the people who train there are amazing they constantly encourage you and help you gain confidence in the workouts.
Since training at CrossFit Scarborough 6 months ago I have lost body fat, gained lean mass muscle, have a better understanding of how to fuel my body and have made friends.

So starting Crossfit @crossfitscarborough from the start has literally changed everything in my life .From being a dancer and never lifting a weight to now is unreal the improvement in fitness , body & me is totally unreal . Pete being an amazing coach and also giving me education with my own nutrition my body now is miles away from what it was when I started.Crossfit sets little goals in movements,weight & wods and every time you achieve something new it gives you great sense of achievement. The people @crossfitscarborough are literally the greatest people and know I've found friends for life .I've never felt so welcomed at any other gym .The best thing I've ever tried and done and will keep doing . I used to go to the gym alot, but only could get so far with my fitness level. I decided to look for the next best thing where I could get fitter, stronger, faster, and loose a bit of weight if I could. When i joined up with Scarborough Crossfit, I found exactly what I was looking for. In just 2 months I lost almost 5 kg, and got much stronger then I could have by going to the gym and following my old routine.
When you join crossfit, you dont just join some workout class, you join a team who are there for the same reasons you are, get fit and stay fit. Its the same people everyday who you get to know over time, and its those people who help you push harder. Not to mention the instructors who are there supporting you in your goals, teaching you the right techniques and exerises.
Personally, when I first came over I didnt think it would be for me as I have a severe knee injury and didnt think I could keep up. I met Pete who runs and teaches Scarborough crossfit and told him about my problem. He told me what I could do to build up my knee and helped me throughout the time I was there with my progress. I have to say I am grad I stuck at it as not only my fitness level is up, my knee feels much better.

So, if you are looking to better yourself physically then I strongly suggest you give it go! You would be surprised of what you can achieve!!

If this time last year you’d told me that I’d be voluntarily going to the gym every day, deadlifting more than my body weight and loving every second of a workout that looks lethal I’d have laughed in your face. Me? Crossfit? No way!!! I can’t! I have Ehler-Danlos syndrome!! People, like are me, aren’t supposed to lift weights. My joints and muscles won’t be able to take it. It’ll be too difficult etc etc.... Well, Pete Davey has proven me wrong. In the space of 12 months, I have become faster, stronger, happier and more confident. I have gone from having days where my muscles and joints were too painful to leave the house to going in 5 times a week to train. There’s no magic or drugs involved. Pete has taught me that the only thing holding me back from being strong and healthy is my mindset. Sure my joints and muscles may not be like everybody else’s. But that doesn’t mean I can't-do it at all. At every single session, he’ll make sure I’m standing correctly, doing all the right movements, teaching me exercises to improve my squats and lifts and guiding on how to tailor my lifestyle to support my body. And he does this for every single person who walks through the door!! His passion and enthusiasm is contagious and has created a community where no matter how strong or old you are, everybody will be cheering you on, even if it’s just running that one second faster. I would recommend Crossfit Scarborough to anyone who enjoys small group training and is looking to improve week on week, which you don't get from standard gym classes. Very friendly and supportive.

Most people hear the word “CrossFit” and presume that it is either elitist or too intimidating – this certainly isn’t the case! Prior to joining CrossFit Scarborough, I had considered myself to be ‘fit’ having served well over a decade in the military; regularly competing in ultra-endurance events and following all the “fad” fitness regimes that had come and gone. I have never felt as fit or been less prone to injury since joining CrossFit Scarborough. Pete and his coaching staff are extremely knowledgeable and tailor the training to suit you as an individual. If you are middle aged and think you are too old to join a gym to improve your fitness then in finding Crossfit Scarborough you have just found your solution. I'm 60 and joining Crossfit Scarborough is one of the best things I ever did a couple of years ago. Coaches are highly educated, helpful and supportive. I've been a member of several gyms in the past and Crossfit Scarborough is by far, the best gym I've been a part of on my fitness journey. The coaching, training ethos, atmosphere and camaraderie have encouraged me to train and eat better and stay consistently focused. I've achieved goals I didn't know I could reach. I love this place, joined two years ago to get back into training after a couple of years out and it's completely changed the way I approach exercise. Everybody is really friendly and approachable and the head coach is dedicated and knowledgeable. I've learnt more about fitness here in 10 months than I have in the whole of my two decades and a bit of life. Everything you learn is transferable; you get life skills as well. While you're lifting the little nugget weights (to start with) you'll probably get some nuggets of wisdom from the other members. The people make it and every single person there is sound. If there's anything you think you can't do, Pete will prove you wrong and use his knowledge make you fitter than you've ever been. Don't be put off by the size of the box, it's got everything a gym needs. It's 100% suitable for anyone of any ability; I recommended it to my Dad and he said he prefers fishing however I bet if he came with me for a week he'd be hooked. More...

I Originally signed up for 4-5 months to improve my fitness level while training for a triathlon.....that was over 2 years ago. Why give something up when it makes you happy?
