This is the best 'typical' Indian food I've had, my wife and I ate so much that we almost exploded it was so good. The chutneys that came with the poppadoms at the start were delicious, the entrees were spectacular and the curries themselves were just sublime. The only downside was the wait, it was a long wait from when we were seated to when our food arrived. The staff didn't keep us up-to-date on when our food was coming, the restaurant wasn't busy inside but had a lot of takeaways going out as the races were on. What can I say except Wow!! We have just left absolutely stuffed to the max having eaten the most delicious food ever. Dont be fooled by outside appearance, this is a fantastic restaurant. We were looking for something a little different and thats what we found. The south indian twist is great. Made a very pleasant change from our usual indian. We had mixed meat starter and a dry beef starter. Fabulous and very well presented. I had crab as main which was brilliant the wife had the mini banquet with about 8 small portions of different types. 6 were great others not to our liking, but you dont know unless you try.All in all great food, fabulous presentation and the owners showed a great deal of customer care.You could tell they were passionate about there quality of service.Will definitely be going again. This place was a good 5 minutes walk away from the bustling centre of York and not in the most appealing row of shops/takeaways/restaurants to be honest. However, the staff were welcoming and keen to offer advice on what to choose.We had one meat Thali, comprised of separate lamb, beef, chicken, shellfish, dhal and potato curries, with rice, paratha, onion bhaji and a gulab jamun. This was excellent, with lots of variety and very filling. We also had Kerala lamb curry with rice and bhatooray. The latter being a puffed up bread. Not only was the food fantastic, but the staff were kind and incredibly hospitable. There was a slight wait before our main meals arrived, so we were treated to papadums with chutney dipping sauces on the house. Our server gave us brilliant recommendations for the meals, we ordered a vegetarian curry and three chicken curries plus two serves of rice, all were amazing.
