Charmain came to Ocean Backpackers Youth Hostel last week to take some photos that we could use for our website, on booking agent sites and on future social media promotions. She did an amazing job! We were so pleased with the photos that she produced which looked so much more professional than we could have ever done!! What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
I think it’s definitely about having the trust of the person you’re capturing and for them to feel relaxed in your presence.
Posed photos are rarely comfortable for anyone involved.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
Firstly I always ask if they’ve seen my images as it’s important that they like my style of photography.
What do you love most about your job?
Meeting new people is a big one, but I personally get great joy when I get to go through the images taken for the client and see one and know “that’s the shot”.
What inspired you to start your own business?
I always say that my photography is a hobbie which got out of hand!
I’ve always loved the art of photography (I used to cost my parents a fortune sending off roles of film to Truprint!) and was always the photo taker. I then really started developing my skills in my 20s before launching my business in my 30s.
Why should our clients choose you?
I think clients should look at my body of work and decide if I am right for them. Style is such a subjective thing, but if my clients are looking for a friendly, relaxed photographer then here I am!
