What’s the secret to taking a great photograph?
The secret to a great photograph is something that can't be written down. You have to connect with each client on an individual level you are both comfortable with. Discussing what they want and what they don't want is equally important but is just the first step. The initial contact is vital and if the customer can convey the type of memory they want to create then I can build on that and work with them to make sure everything goes as planned. Good communication is key, both verbal and visual.
What questions might you ask a client when starting a new project?
i don't just ask questions, I have a conversation about my style and explain I can adapt to whatever they want from the booking, be it strictly formal or something quirky as long as they are aware they are in charge of how the day goes but I might end up pushing them a wee bit if I think it'll make a great shot.
What do you love most about your job?
I mostly love the end result, when I hand over the package to clients and see delight in their eyes but it's not worth it until they have had a good look at them and email or Facebook me to tell me how pleased they are.
I also love the editing/processing side of it and I love the fact that if there's any shots they are not 100% happy with I can work with them to change the editing and see if I can make it better for them.
What inspired you to start your own business?
It was mainly the way people reacted to my photography. I had been doing it a long time and never really had the courage to take it up professionally but eventually I gave in and went for it. I have another full time job so I don't have the worry of relying on the photography to pay my bills but i still hope I can do it full time one day.
Why should our clients choose you?
Not a question I can answer, I will do my best for any and every client who books me but it's entire;y up to them to decide that my portfolio is good enough for them to trust me with their special day or moment.
