It is important to prune your tree so that it promotes growth and keeps your tree healthy from an early age. It also makes your tree safe for the environment and people around it. The main reason that people want a tree pruned is so that you can regulate the size and shape of the tree and make it aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Reductions are where the height and the spread of the entire tree are reduced. This reduces the stress on the branches, helping to ensure the tree is safe and healthy. A crown reduction is the most used technique to control the size of a tree while maintaining the structure and size of its crown.

Crown lifting is the removal of the lowest branches to raise the canopy of the tree.

Thinning a tree is the removal of smaller branches to reduce the density of the tree. The most common reasons for thinning a tree would be to allow light to pass through the tree and reduce wind resistance. Thinning can also prevent branches from rubbing together, which would eventually cause a branch to fracture.

Deadwood removal is the removal of dead branches from the tree. It is important to maintain your tree and keep it safe for yourself and others. A branch can diseased and form decay over time.

Hedge trimming should be undertaken every 1-2 years to keep your garden looking neat and tidy.

Tree felling is the complete removal of a tree. The reasons you might want to remove a tree would be if it is diseased or considered unsafe. For any advice on whether a tree should be removed or not don’t hesitate to contact us.

Pollarding is the removal of all branches from the tree just leaving the trunk. This is normally a last resort if a tree is diseased or damaged. Once a pollard is initiated, act should be repeated to the same point.
