Bodywise isn't too far away from my place and this spa is 100% legit. I'm so glad that I found this gem and finally went inside. They mix it with Thai and Swedish style, and I must say it was the best massage I've ever had. My masseuse Amanda was amazing, and her hands were magical. If there is a Heaven, I believe it is filled with burgers, steak, BBQ and massages. All of my favorite things. I love massages and consider myself something of a connoisseur. I know what you're thinking. "You're a guy, what could YOU possibly know about spas?" To that I say, "assuming gender norms, are we? What year is this?" While the absolute fanciest spas remain downtown in places like the Peninsula and Chuan Spa, Wicker Park-Bucktown has a really nice range of massage options, from midrange semi-lux places like Spa Soak and Ruby Room to dozens of low cost massage joints like Comma to unique and downright gonzo concepts like Red Square and Piva Beer Spa. Yes indeed, there is no lack of options in the hood, and I've been to them all. So when I say that Bodywise is the best overall value in the city, I'm speaking from experience. Bodywise is a no-frills storefront that on first glance is easy to mistake for one of the shadier massage parlors that also dot the area. It's sometimes hard to know how legit a place is until you're already inside, but don't be afraid - Bodywise is the real thing. The inside is similar to the outside - no frills. You don't get tea or skittles, no robe, no towels or scented cloth or shower with a steam room. You come in, choose from about four different massage styles, put on a pair of slippers and head into one of the simple tiny back rooms. But that's where the "typical" ends. I've been there four times and each time I've had a different masseuse. But I'm impressed with the level of consistency. They are all well schooled and excel at applying the perfect amount of pressure. They understand anatomy, and know all of the classic trouble spots and how to work out the kinks. Most impressively, they give a proper thai massage, ceiling bars and all. And they are great at using it. For anywhere between $60 - $70 an hour, it's the highest quality massage for the price I've ever had. Heck, it's one of the highest quality massages for any price I've had. BEST MED SPA !!!! I just had the best experience at Bodywise. The staff is so professional and friendly. I felt right at home when I walked in the door. The Nurse and Dr were phenomenal! So much knowledge and took their time answering my questions and getting to know me for my needs. I travel for a living and have to get my treatments when and where I can, I can honestly say that I wish I lived here to be taken care of by this staff. Hands down the BEST massage in the city! Gina is my girl! She really pays attention to you & your needs & gets out every knot in your body! Her technique is great as well. It is quiet, relaxing, & clean. Some other massage places skimp you on the time, but they go the full 90 minutes here even if you start a little late. Amanda is the best! She is sweet, strong, and attentive. I did a 60 min signature massage and it was a really nice combo between Thai, Swedish, and deep tissue. This is a no frills spa that generally is Thai massage style . I came in for the first time today and asked for a Swedish massage . This is not a traditional Swedish massage as it combines reflexology and stretching (to be fair she asked if I wanted stretching). It was a great massage and went a few minutes over an hour. They get up on the table and use their elbow so I feel like it's definitely a more intense massage than a Swedish (note* I'm a huge Baby when it comes to pressure so had to ask for lighter pressure once or twice)Overall I would highly recommend for the price ! I messaged them on yelp and they got me in two hours later on a Saturday which I appreciate so much. Place was packed so must be popular . I was pleasantly surprised by my massage. I was able to get in at the last minute for a 90 minute massage. The therapist was great and asked if I wanted some stretching with the massage this was new for me and felt great. The only negative and reason why I am giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that my appointment was for 3 we started after 3:15 and finished at 4:35 I would have loved the full 90. Amanda was great! Listened very well and was attentive to my needs and requests. Has amazingly strong hands. The spa is nice and clean. Wish I could give 4.9 stars. Absolutely loved my service with one exception -- The masseuse kept leaving in the middle of my treatment to attend to things in the front. I have been here a dozen times and it is always the best massage I've ever had! My masseuse is always wonderful and obviously really knows what she is doing every time . If you come in expecting a "massage envy" kind of service, you might be a little surprised: these are Thai style massages, the best kind if you're okay with someone climbing up on the table and standing on your back, pulling your limbs in different directions and manipulating you into sometimes awkward positions. Gina gave an excellent massage. My back was completely out of alignment following foot surgery, and I left the spa feeling relaxed and realigned! I walked in and they were able to take me immediately. She communicated periodically throughout the massage to determine if pressure was sufficient-it was perfect! I wanted to like this place after reading all the great reviews and resisted writing a review last week after going to the spa with a friend and having an uncomfortable experience with 2 massage therapists who were unprofessional during the massage. I spoke to the manager to offer feedback that other clients may also find their behavior inappropriate. She spoke to both therapists who denied their actions. Furthermore the therapist who massaged my friend was sneezing. The manager was very apologetic and offered to rectify the situation by providing another massage with a different therapist. I applaud the manager for taking immediate action to ensure a better experience. I decided to give them a second chance and returned for another visit. I'm glad I did. Karen, the manager came in and gave me a fantastic deep tissue massage while I waited for Amy for my 90 minute massage. Amy was friendly and pleasant which made up for everything! Kudos to the manager Karen for her genuine concern for customers. I would give 5 stars for my second visit!! They turned a bad experience into to a positive one. Hopefully, the great customer service continues! Thanks Karen and Amy! Also, a little forewarning. This place typically combines Thai massage with Swedish or Deep Tissue. So if you prefer not to have the combination, let your therapist know you want a Swedish or Deep tissue massage with no stretching. I had an unexpectedly stressful week with a family member in the hospital. After things calmed down and stabilized, I realized all of my tension had transferred to my body. I looked for a massage place in my neighborhood and decide to try Bodywise. Wow...I am SO glad I did! I am someone who needs/wants deep, hard pressure and rarely find someone who can do it. I have received many massages in my life and this was by far one of the best! I received a 90 minute deep tissue massage from Coco, and it was absolutely amazing. I suffer from a significant amount of pain and tension, especially in my upper back/shoulders, and Coco used deep pressure to slowly work away my tight knots. If you are serious about getting a real, effective massage, I wouldn't go anywhere else! I've had massages at quite a few different places across the city, but this is the first place where I left feeling completely different right away. They do a great job of incorporating different styles of massages into your session, and also of listening to what your goals are (relaxation/invigoration, etc), depending on what you need that day. I've been trying to find a good massage place that I can stick with, and I'm so glad I found it!! I've been to so many places that had decent reviews, but they were all disappointing one way or another. However, Bodywise really exceeded my expectation compared to all of them. Made an appointment for a couples' massage in the am for the pm on a Friday, and they were able to put us down right away. Needless to say, the staff was very friendly, virtually no wait when we arrived, and the room was clean, dim lit and well equipped. Before I get to the massages, I just want to note that so many masseuses I've had were man-handling me like a piece of meat or just didn't bother to ask my areas of concern, and I was really hoping Bodywise wouldn't do so. I was right. Nathan and Penny were very professional and inquired us of our area of concerns first, then proceeded to customize the massages according to our pain spots. They had a really good understanding of how to balance the pressure, took care of our bodies, then thought about how to best massage the knots we had.The highlight of the massage was after I thought it was done (after they've massaged us after we turned around), but boy was I wrong. They proceeded to stretch us left and right (almost like yoga poses), and it felt amazing! Especially when my back can't help but crack. Last but not least, we were a little late (5-10 min), but they stayed true to the full 60 min massages! We walked out feeling refreshed and satisfied for every penny we spent there! Such great value! One of the best massages I've ever had! If you're into the soft flowy relaxation only massage this isn't your place, but if you enjoy thai style massage where they really get into your muscles using elbows and deep pressure then you've come to the right place! I had a 90min massage and she got into all my tight knots on my back and did stretches etc and I felt so relaxed and like a new woman after! I then had a facial which was only my second one ever and it was great, I just stayed in the same room still relaxed and undressed and they did my facial there... I must have slept the wrong way and I was having difficulty moving my neck and my shoulders were very stiff. From reading the reviews and checking their website they offered a special for 1. 5 hour massage for $88.00. I called and they said for 1st time customers it was $90.00 cash for 90 min. Lucky me they had a spot open that afternoon. It was easy to get to from the blue line. Just 4min walk from the Division stop.Ella was my masseuse. She was great. She did all sorts of methods from Swedish, deep tissue, trigger point, hot stones and stretching (like Thai). And I love love love that she took the time on my feet and hands! This place is THE best! A true hidden gem. Honestly I wanted to keep this place a secret to myself, but our massage was so great that I am sharing it with EVERYONE who I think would enjoy it. I took my mom and fiancé here for Mother's Day and all 3 of us had the best Thai massage ever. What makes it so unique is it is a mixture of a traditional Thai massage AND Swedish massage. Ok, so do not come here expecting a conventional Swedish massage. The massage therapists are skilled, but it is more of a Thai style massage. The tables are really wide, and there is a whole in them for your face, not a conventional face cradle. The massage therapist uses her entire body and weight, at times standing on your legs/back.
